I'm one of the actors. A construction guy in this movie when he falls from the building. Crazy story, We had to go up a construction elevator in Anaheim, Nick is afraid of heights and while in the elevator an Asian girl was the PA and was trying to talk to him and he freaked out in the tiny elevator, like right in our faces, he was scary, he blurted to her and said, "Sure, and I bet you want me to f you after too". Which made no sense to us at the time. They had to tie a tether to him to do the scene too.

Technically it's a better choice. As a human, he will live, get old and die. As an angel he will live forever with Maggie's memories with no way of meeting her or forgetting her. If he had not developed emotions, he could have continued being an angel forever. But once he developed feelings, becoming human was a better choice. At least the pain/hapiness will end some day.

This movie is a veeeery loose remake of a 1987 German film called "Der Himmel Uber Berlin" (Wings of Desire in English). Like the only thing both movies have in common is that the main character is an angel that watches humans without interacting with them and then he falls in love. The original movie is very philosophical and arthouse cinema and the romance is only a minor subplot. It's also in black and white and very slow paced. I still 100x recommend the German version over this movie.
