@@MrJm323The first written rules/laws of the game were published in 1810 at The Royal High School, Edinburgh. It was originally adapted from "ba' games" popular in villages all around the UK for centuries (still played every year in Orkney). William Webb Ellis was interviewed a few years after he left school and knew nothing about the story based on him, it's just a fairy tale!

This is not the right history. Rugby is originated from Indian traditional game 'Yubi Lakpi'.
