That is so wonderful! My parents met when she was waiting tables. She had worked in woodworking factory while men were in WWII. My dad who had just come back from Guam where he had been stationed with The Fighting CeeBees US Navy. As she was taking his order, he asked her out for dinner & a movie. Thinking he probably forgot, she stood at the bus stop to take bus home. Suddenly he was standing right behind her & asked if she was ready to go out for the evening! They, like granny & Papp, dated for three months & got married! They were married for 51 yrs when The Lord called daddy home! That was the hardest time of my life as he was my hero! It was easier losing mom for two reasons-she had Alzheimer’s & the fact she was without dad! It only seemed right they were once again together❤️ When dad came back from the war, he went back to his place of employment which happened to be the woodworking factory that mom had worked in during the war! Dad worked there 48 yrs until his heart attacked him.

Even though this video is a year old, I just came across it. Your mother is so precious. And I loved hearing hers and Jerry's story of meeting and getting married. It is somewhat similar to my story. My boyfriend had gone into the service and came home on leave. We went and got our license with the intention of getting married the next week, but upon seeing a justice of the peace office, he turned in and said we've waited long enough, so get married, we did. We were married 54 years when the Lord took him home, almost two yrs ago and I, too, miss him so very much. I thank you, Tippa, for sharing your sweet mother and her story with us. I lived in Haywood county for 20 years, I lived in the back of the hills. I lived where moonshine was made.. I truly loved the area, the people were true. My grandmother was full of stories of the Appalachia stories and I always loved hearing her stories. My grandmother truly lived off the land and what the area had to offer. My grandmother made a living off of selling her honey and apples, grandfather had died before I was born.. Grandmother is gone, but sure do miss her stories.. Love them why you have them.. Oh and my granny also did sewing.. To some that might seem a rough life, but not too my grandmother...Blessings to all.

What a beautiful ole soul and lady!!! Yes, you are blessed, to have a granny such as this. I could listen to her storytelling all day. Thanks so much for the things that are beautiful and important to you, things that would embarrass some people because of the "country (Appalachian) talk" and some who were "bothered" about their family members which included grandparents, parents, and aunts and uncles. Usually cousins were always accepted for who they were. Wow, what sad thoughts. I love that you love your family and are proud of your family and roots. Thanks so much for sharing your life with us.

I can relate in so many ways to her story. My mama pitched a fit too when Danny asked me to marry him 5 days after he met me in person (we had already been talking on the phone for well over a month by then). We were married a little over 2 months later and over time Mama grew to love him. When the Lord called him home after only 15 wonderful years with him, Mama took it hard because he had endeared himself to her as a son and she still misses him and mentions how it's not the same without him there at our family meals.
