I think there is a hidden strength of Oppy's method of theoretical virtue in comparing theism with naturalism: with respect to explanatory power, it presents a (generous) steel man of the theistic viewpoint in the assumption that theism explains everything. Nor does it straw man the theistic viewpoint with respect to ontological commitments (simplicity.) As far as worldviews go, naturalism is still preferable to the steel man of theism.

Whaaat?! A Graham Oppy interview and it's only got 313 views in over a month?!? That's bizarre. This needs signal boosting.

Graham oppy needs a better mic! Or the video editing needs to equalize the speakers volume. Trying to listen to this whilst doing other things was impossible because I had to constantly turn the volume up to hear Dr Oppy, and then back down again when the host spoke.

Sorry man; I tried. His mic was really low throughout our discussion.

@@reasonthrough5693 I loved the discussion though. His headset mic just isn’t on par with the professional equipment content creators use. Because in almost every discussion he’s participated in that I’ve listened to he’s the quietest by far. Not your fault whatsoever. I didn’t mean for my comment to come across rude though, if it did.

You’re good! I had to do the same thing. Thanks for the feedback!

Really liked the questions you were asking Dr Graham. You're a great interviewer/discusser (sorry if that's the wrong term to use :P)

No. Oppys view is that all possible worlds are just a collection of all possibly true propositions, from which arise from chancy events. Where there are possible worlds* is just where there is chance because chances play out differently.

God is real as a concept in a mind and there are as many versions as there are people who have thought about it, and all of them have logically impossible, mutually exclusive, ineffable, or otherwise untestable attributes, which means they are all indistinguishable from fiction, and should be treated accordingly. You really need no other argument than that. #igtheism

The concept of the Christian God and literal interpretation of bible is completely absurd.

An argument against God. 'God created the universe' is equivalent to 'God created nature'. 'Nature' means `natural, not artificial'----not created. So God created the not created.
