TEACH ENGLISH IN CHINA
Watch until the end to see snippets of me teaching. Slight Wardrobe and hair malfunction but we'l ignore that.
This week I taught Henry VIII (8th). Great lesson to teach. Really enjoyed it and the kids loved it.
*I made a very slight mistake, Edward did become King after Henry although it was very short.

Perfect example of what an English teacher abroad should do rather than moving overseas to have a cheap lifestyle and forget why they moved abroad.

Yep, imagine if it were the other way around. 40-45 students in each class trying to walk through the halls. You should see it at lunchtime, it looks like a bicycle marathon. They get 2 hour lunch breaks, so they can ride home and back. The cafeteria can't hold all those students, so usually only the students who live like in the outer parts of the province and live on campus (high school that is) eat there.

from 6:10 as you walk into the classroom. "Foreign teacher doesnt understand Chinese, Speak English!" Do you know how many times the other teachers would talk about you because they know you cant understand them? When I was teaching English in china i was already fluent in mandarin and gave a lot of teachers a shock when they realized I could understand them.

Actually in 6:10 the man said in Chinese :"if someone tease the foreign teacher by some bad words in Chinese ......." I thought the rest sentences should be " he will have trouble"

lol. 6:10 The Chinese teacher is making an introduction about the English Teacher and warning the students to be respectful. He said and as I quoted "Anyone who bully the English Teacher because he doesn't understand Mandarine will be... " The last few words were not taken in the video, which might be "punished...". I am a Chinese from Beijing.

Are you taking the piss? Never mind, you don't know what that means. This video is very representative of teaching in China though. He should have filmed a better class. Or maybe, this was the best class and his other classes are more akin to sitting inside a cage full of chimpanzees. Because, English class is their only opportunity in the whole day to relax.

How are they so well-behaved in your class?? I teach middle school as well and whenever I open my mouth to say two sentences the class erupts into chatter and its hard to bring them back to attention. I speak as simply as possible so they can understand and I give them enough chances to speak as well, maybe about 50/50 teacher/students. I teach in a big city and many of the students' families are quite well off so maybe that has something to do with it but idk...

I spent my most happiness life in this school, teachers all very nice and classmates also very friendly. I often recall the happy time, but the school has been renovated for a long time. It become totally different. I always wants to see my school originally but it is sad that I never take video at that time. So,thank you for letting me see the original school at that time. This video's lightheartedness and the relaxed teaching atmosphere make me feel a little better for the time being (still have a year of school left, though). I had seen a comment below where you said you had drama experience that helped with nerves -- perhaps my incomplete performance degree/experience will be of use after all! I'm really quite nervous about it all, though I've made lots of friends in both of Vietnam's biggest cities who are very reassuring. They tell me that the best way to teach is to just keep it interesting. I think you did just that!

This video makes teaching English in China seem really fun! It would be hard for me though because I'm self-conscious of my voice, especially when I have to raise it >_

I was at a high school NW of Nantong. You got a lot better audio and video stuff than I had. Plus, no video monitoring of my teaching. Later this year going to Romania or Russia. Love to teach, kids are sponges for learning if treated right. China is a great place if you stay away from the Government. I am former military and they didn't like that.

Hi. I’m about to start my TEFL training and I just wanted to know if you had to learn Mandarin before or at the start of your teaching journey? I hope to pick up the language there, but my current language skills are none and I’m kinda nervous.
