How beautiful!!! How long before my mokaras will look like that. I bought my mokaras top cut maybe 5 months ago. I also potted them with charcoal and gravel as my medium. Some got crown rot because of weeklong nonstop rain. I sprayed fungicide on them though.

Hey John Paul, good to now you now have some mokara orchids as part of your collection. I'm so sorry to hear about the crown rot, that's one of the downside of growing them on the outside. If you give them weekly care, they should become established and start blooming constantly within a year. You have to spray them with fungicides especially when you are having lots of rainfall to prevent the crown rot. Are you in Jamaica and if yes what parish?

The orchids are so beautiful. Orchids are one of my favorite plants but vanda is so difficult to flower . Have you tried growing orchids organically? I dont use any fertilizers or insecticides in growing flowers.

Hello and thank you Eva, somehow once you understand the requirements of the vanda orchids they grow quite easily. Remember when you buy a new plant the commercial growers uses a lot of fertilizers to grow them so that they will get to blooming size quickly. Therefore the plants are used to a lot of fertilizers. You don't have to use synthetic fertilizers but you can make organic ones. These orchids can naturally produce flowers without fertilizers but the plants that are accustom to fertilizers will take sometime to acclimatize to a no fertilizer routine. Therefore they will take a much longer time to bloom or rebloom. Also insects are everywhere and will damage the plants and the blooms. So there are natural things that you can use to prevent them from destroying the plants. I do understand why you would not want to use any chemicals on your plants, but you will just have to wait on the plant to naturally do it's thing. One love friend. 💖🥂
