To fix this issue (which I also had with awesomewm), I just used the "xworkspaces" module that prebuilt with polybar. It gets the names of the tags (so you're not forced to have just bubble icons, or tags from 1 to 9) and it also highlights which tag you are on. Its pretty neet but it doesn't implement the whole wibar (awesomewm's native bar) features (like seeing which are visible/selected (I haven't gotten into that functionality yet, only moved recently to awesomewm). The click to move to the tag also works. I hope this will help you!

Hey, just out of curiosity. Are you using a multi-monitor set-up with Awesome? I've been playing around with the xworkspaces module in polybar but it just adds all 27 desktops to all screens (I use the same bar on three screens, not three separate bars). The pin-workspaces setting is supposed to fix that, but it just doesn't work with Awesome apparently (don't know if that's true, I read it on reddit).

I know this is really old but I hope, really hope you see it. Seems you've been running awesomewm for a quite while, have you any idea how the code should be to be able to move the floating popups that opens up sometimes? ...or even when you open one, for me they seems to be in the upper left corner and as of the 'popup' ones they cover stuff so I cant read that area. I've been looking for this for months but it's always way older posts and not even the exact I need. Using awesomewm 4.3 (Too Long) Preferably with keys but sure mouse too. Trying to lay of that mouse thing as my shoulders don't like that.
