I love watching traffic footage from this time. Yeah, parked cars were still as much as a pain as they are now, but at least not only were they cars with more character, but at least they weren’t bigger than what people need. I can barely see any SUVs or crossovers here.

Very interesting video, you're right about old footage being fascinating because everything's so different. I grew up in the 2000s not far from Blackburn and when I look at pictures of my local area, it seems so alien to me, despite the fact that's what it looked like to me as a young child (but then I'm now at that age where the 70s is as close to when I was born as today is 👴). (That's also part of the reason why I like looking at old maps where things have changed such as some roads not being built yet or disused railway lines still there). I know it's the North but everything seems more grey than it does now, or is that because of better cameras and screens?

The weather was pretty mediocre that day in fairness! Blackburn has changed so much in the last 30 years it's barely recognisable to anyone who only remembers it from the 90s. It's a town with so much unused potential, let down by poor leadership decisions and blaming other towns for its own issues. It makes me sad as it could be a really good place to live and visit with not much effort from politicians.

Crackin'! 😉 That now bypassed local-access road you mentioned, I wonder, how this is built, how they insure the traffic not going through? (Mind you, I have seen quite a few videos on Dutch traffic infrastructure in the recent years, so.... well.)

There's been no effort to stop usage of the old road unfortunately. Local business owners demanded the road stayed open at both ends.

Thanks for uploading this video, do you know the dates they were shot by any chance? 😊 The clip which starts at 4:00 was possibly filmed sixteen years ago as the Volkswagen Golf there was registered in January 2008 and there were some buildings near Tesco which were demolished the following year, did you also notice the extremely early Ford Mondeo on the 5:28 mark by any chance as it was registered the month sales began? 😂

I had this all saved in a folder I started in 2006; several computer changes later I've not really kept records so it is possible some of it was filmed as late as 2008.

I mean by today's standards an absolute potato but at the time it was a fairly decent Sony handicam. How times change eh!
