We are on the same page--I have been doing Christmas cards in July/August for years. Also, printing is less expensive and faster in the summer if you go that route. You asked what we used to flatten things. I am a bookbinder, therefore I do not lack for weights in all shapes and sizes, but my newest favorite is an 1800's sidewalk light from England that my sister gave me last year. It is approximately 10" square, 1 1/4" thick and has a very smooth bottom that I weight down many cards at a time. It weighs 10 lbs. Coolest thing ever as well as very useful. They were made to embed in a grid in sidewalks to light basements before electricity. Love your designs and your wonderful smile and humor. Thanks for sharing your skills with us.

True story: I moved to MN in the spring of 1990. I grew up in the PAC NW and thought, "Oh, similar climate probably." The first spring I was here I almost passed out daily from the heat and humidity. Candle sticks literally were melting in my apartment. I had NO money but I went to Sears and bought what was practically the last AC unit in their store, charged in on a credit card, installed it in the window and didn't move for hours. It took me an hour to get the box up the stairs, too. Lol. I had bruises on my body from forcing it up while my boyfriend (now hubby!) was at work. It was a rude awakening to that charming midwestern heat and humidity.

My favorite flattening trick is to place my card or panel between copy paper (to protect it) and then run it through my die cutting machine a few times with no dies. The pressure really helps flatten it out. If possible, I instead run it through my Minc machine. Obviously that won’t work with heat embossing though.

To flatten things...take two cheap bamboo cutting boards, drill a hole through both boards large enough for a carriage bolt. Then use a carriage bolt with wing nuts on each end and you have an inexpensive book/card press. If you are flattening several layers or cards and worry about glue leakage, use coffee filters to separate them...they also wick up excessive moisture.

I use a heavy book to for flattening; BUT if I need it fast, I run it through my Big Shot, using an embossing folder and the sandwich for it, BUT I put the card on the outside of the folder. The pressure from that stack is pretty effective. Another thing I do for some cards is to emboss them, which flattens them, then I run it through again on the outside of the folder, which removes the embossing but gives it a bit of subtle texture which works nicely for some designs.

Hey, that’s my hole punch! Also about 30 years old. I also have the thingy that puts in eyelets and it makes a smaller hole (just not as clean). Anyway, thanks for giving me a burning desire to purchase more dies! I promise not to tell my husband who you are. 🤣

Hi Darlin! I run warped cards thru my die cut machine. Ho ho ho!
@czdesign4 жыл бұрын
Do you put them between cardstock? or paper first?
@vanessagray70804 жыл бұрын
Cathy Zielske - just between the plates as if you are die cutting wo the dies- if the plates are well loved, then add card stock to not leave imprint - stay cool!

There is one side that is flat and one that appears to have an edge. The edge side goes on the paper. : )

If it’s 800 degrees in the upper Midwest it must be 1200 degrees on the gulf coast! Christmas in July helps me get thru it.
