Now this is my kind of video Alan (as if you didn’t know), very enjoyable, great images and outstanding job/work on the conversion to black and white.

Sorry for the late comment. It's great to see your videos, Alan. You're one cool gent, and I have not seen 1 video that isn't informative and entertaining

Hi Eric and thank you so much! "Cool" isn't often used as an adjective for me though I will gladly take it!

an excellent day out Alan - very enjoyable being along with you. some really good images as well - I particularly like the more "crunchy" mono edits 🙂 I just watched Andy Banner's graveyard video, and commented that I bought a roll of 120 mono film about 2 years ago now with a view to undertaking (yes, I know) a graveyard project. I've taken 1 shot in that time!! both his and your videos have now inspired me to finish it, probably in the new year 🙂

Yes Nick it will be great to see some of your take on graveyards, I've got enough images "buried" away already lol.

Thank you Alan, I enjoyed this episode as I do with all your videos, and look forward to every new episode,I like your use of different focal length lenses and explaining your thought process, love those vintage rokkor lenses.

Thank you Karl, I agree those Rokkors are good lenses and they don't sell for silly money either (well at least my versions don't).

Stumbled across this and had to take a look. Taking a shortcut through the cemetery was a favourite on the return leg of family walks from St Helens over to Crank and Billinge in the 60's. My God we could walk in those days! Nice to see the place again. If you visit again, take the time to read some of those horizontal slabs. I remember being seriously impressed to find one referring to an outbreak of the plague... I live well over 100 miles away now and I wouldn't recognise the town these days, but this is one location I wouldn't mind revisiting. Going to keep an eye on your channel. I likked most of your shots but my favourite shot was #20. I just liked the way it was suffused with green, and a little bit of uncertainty about whether the view was upwards or along...

Thank you David, it always gives me a boost when people who know/knew the areas watch the content and comment on it. I did take time to read a number of headstones but I missed the one referring to plague. It is a fascinating spot.

Hi Alan , well here is my in depth review 😀 of your video, the first few minutes were informative, and then my interest grew when we got into the photography talk, I went along with you, thinking what would I do as we looked at your creative choices. Overall I thought your colour images were my first choice, in particular with the close ups of the Chantry, the different colours in that stonework had to be seen. That stone cat may well have been around 30 years old, that was the time those cats were on sale at the garden centres. With the B/W images I think that sometimes the medium in which they are displayed could make a difference, possibly looking better as a photo print. Good work with the Sony, although I thought you had said you favored the mico 4/3 camera's these days? You mentioned that you were shooting Jpeg, if you knew you was going to edit later why not shoot raw? I have a dilemma with general photography advice that often says shoot both Jpeg and Raw, what is the advantage of that? Either shoot just jpeg if only planning light or zero editing or just Raw if you are getting more involved with the final image? What are your thoughts on this Alan? Always a pleasure, Cheers 🍻

Hello Steve, always good to get comments and questions from you. The Sony was bought purely as a way for me to use vintage lenses as they were intended (so a 28mm works as a 28mm and not as a 56mm on M43). For all other use, it is my M43 cameras all the time. I'm not dogmatic about make or format however and I never want the channel to be about that at all. I shot Jpeg mainly to see what the results would look like from the A7II and overall I was pleased. Editing is just as easy with Jpeg's, it is just that they are highly compressed and so you are more limited in bringing out heavily under or over exposed areas. I agree completely with your comment about B&W images looking better as printed images.

I get it, Alan , I hadn't realised the Sony had a full frame sensor, I recently purchased an adaptor to fit some Canon fd lenses on my Pentax K5, previously I had had good results with them fitted on my Micro 4/3, the Pentax isn't full frame but I thought it would be interesting see how the lenses performed with the 1.5 sensor which would give a result closer to the original mounting. Cheers.

Enjoyable watch Alan, images were all quite good. At 19:19 in, I wanted to see all of the tree that's behind the Chantry, the top is cut off. Cropping, making creative edits, is mostly all subjective, unless you're doing client work. My favorites: 2, 4, 8, 10, 17, 19, and 23. I think all of the images from this outing would've been good candidates for mono edits (or should I say black and white? What's the difference?). 💜😎💜

Monochrome can be made up of varying shades of the same colour (i.e. sepia, blue toning etc.) whereas black & white are made from those and degrees of grey. To most people they are intechangeable though (I'm guilty of that myself)

Thanks for another interesting video. Just goes to show how much hard work is involved in putting one of these YT videos together . How are you getting on with ON-1 editing software?
@photographyforenjoyment26 күн бұрын
I like On-1 in certain areas; it's great as a filing/library package and the AI features can be useful when editing. I'm glad I have it, although I do often revert to Affinity for retouching. I don't think either are 'stand-alone' packages (and probably not as good as PS/LR) but they are plenty good enough for what I do.

For me mono in nearly every case.
