My family lived in this city for generations in the Jewish quarter, but in those days, it was called Mogador. My family left before the name change, but it's surreal to see where my ancestors lived.

Thanks for the video! I had been visiting Essaouira several times and stayed there a few days or even a week each time. In only 4 hours you got only a glimpse of the town. It wakes up in the evening. My last stay there was 4 years ago. I love this town. The harbor looks much cleaner and more organized now. The big trawlers seem to gone as well as the construction site for new wooden boats. It lost a bit of its charm. Between the harbor and the old town, on the big square, there were a lot of fish restaurants and often live music. At sunset it was a great place with fresh grilled fish, music and a lot of people. Now there is just a construction site. What a pity. The fresh market in the center of the medina wasn't shown. In the morning, there are a lot of locals selling vegetables, fruits, meat, and spices. There are some interesting art galleries, too. Not just souvenir shops but real art. The town is also known for its wood working. In the past, you could watch the handicrafts in the medina.

I only watched a few episodes of GOT, but this place sure looks nice to visit with a beautiful view of the sea. The canons look very cool, too. I had tried sea urchin once in Sapporo's seafood market. They grilled it for me as I don't eat raw. It tasted so soft, melt in your mouth, and a bit slimy. It's definitely a unique taste, and I think once is enough for me, lol

Hahahaha 😂 sometimes things can take a few tries before you decide if you like it or not. Durian was one of those foods for me. Eventually I grew to enjoy it. But it's still a hard pass for Yen 😂
@ouradventerousdays Жыл бұрын
@PeterandYen durian is definitely a big no for my husband, and he refused to try regardless. I'm not a fan of sashimi and any raw cook food. My steak has to be medium. Otherwise, I won't eat. Even with medium, there's still blood 🤢

Hi Guys, This was a really good and informative video. It was good to see some of the issues you encountered like the original trip organizer canceling the night before and your local guide coming up with a price after he wrangled you into a tour of the fishing boats. It was funny watching Peter eating the uni and trying to say something diplomatic:) My wife was happy to see Yen wearing what was bought two videos ago as well. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, you guys produce great videos. Thanks again for taking us with you on your trips.

“But this….is different.” Pretty much summed it up for me 😁… Was it much different than uni served in sushi restaurants? I’m guessing the ones you’ve tried in NZ tastes like the ones from sushi restaurants? Essaouira seemed like a cool, chill relaxing day… for some reason the description of “treats x4” made me laugh 😂… and you got a 🐈 in 😁. Really enjoyed the Morocco series… Italy was cool, but Morocco had some of that adventurous oomf in it that appealed to me. Thanks for sharing guys and safe travels! Hopefully you are enjoying some downtime back home 😊

It was 🤔 the one that they serve in Japan are very similar to the new Zealand kina. But the one in Essaouira was just... undescribable 😂 Yen and I would agree with your summary. A lot of our time in Morocco felt like an adventure. Def a diff experience from Italy 🇮🇹 😁

Absolutely enjoyed watching the video. Just a couple of questions: 1) How much time did you devote to walking the Rampart? 2) A bunch of folks say the "goats in the Argan trees" is sight for folks traveling from Marrakech to Essaouira. Can you also see this if you have a private tour or is there an easy getaway to this spot from the town of Essaouira? Once again, great video and one of the better ones I've watched so far of this town.
@PeterandYen2 ай бұрын
Thank you for the kind words 😊 We spent about 45 mins at the rampart but that's because we're filming a vlog too, so probably just 20-30mins there is plenty to walk all around it from one end to the other as well. Regarding the goats, we asked about that during our tour as (at that time anyway) they said people started to actually purposely put the goats in the tree as a means to attract tourists and then later sell things to them there or near there 😅 so it wasn't a natural occurrence anymore (and I guess there were repercussions for anyone caught doing the practice). Don't know about now but yea even though our tour mentioned the "chance" of seeing them, we didn't encounter any. Hope you have better luck!
@pranavchandrasekhar64542 ай бұрын
@@PeterandYen First, a HUGE apology for my delayed acknowledgment of your response. Thank you so much. Folks putting goats on trees to attract tourists is crazy - and definitely NOT something I want to see. I appreciate you pointing out the non-trivial possibility of that. I also imagine that is an easier thing to see with private transport as opposed to with a Supratours bus (which is what I plan to take).
