14 hours is the longest trip on British Rail? That does put it in perspective, I think Amtrak's longest is on the order of 50 hours, and that isn't even all the way across the country, just the Zephyr between Chicago and (almost) San Francisco (no trains cross the bay, you have to do the last couple of miles by bus); and the Lake Shore Limited for 37 more hours between Boston and Chicago.

If you were to rename Shoreham-by- Sea so that you included the name of the river, you would get Shoreham-by-Sea-on-Adur (or Shoreham-on-Adur-by-Sea). Either way it would be 19 letters. Alternatively, you could ask Network Rail to build a branch line to Cottonshopeburnfoot in Northumberland.

I don’t get the longest sequence of stations with names in increasing character length. It doesn’t work for the York, Leeds, Batley, Dewsbury, Huddersfield, Manchester Victoria, Manchester Oxford Road, one. At least not in one uninterrupted journey to just those stations. You’d have to stop at lots more stations between like Mirfield, Deighton, Slaithwaite, Marsden, Greenfield, Etc etc etc or change trains a few times...
