Christopher never gives a bad interview or an uninteresting discussion

That's spot on. The dude's a machine. :)

Great discussion. I think part of Ruocchio’s appeal-apart from his skill-is that he’s a conscious mythmaker, or perhaps I should say mythic sub creator, in the vein of Tolkien. Like Tolkien, his fiction isn’t superficially Catholic, but it takes mythic cycles, symbolic realities, good and evil, and the honor of striving with the former against the latter very seriously. There’s a deep hunger for fiction that does that.

Yes, this is very well said and I agree wholeheartedly. As a Catholic as well as a fan of the likes of C.S. Lewis and religious symbologists like Jonathan Pageau, Christopher would likely agree with your assessment as well, I'd imagine. Thanks for watching!

Are fades really the new normal.... On another note, really liking the discussion. I think the Ruocchio interviews levelled up with Parker and now you are taking it even further. You can see he definitely thrived in this discussion. Big props to you. Greetings from South Africa

Great conversation! So cool that you got to meet him in person!! I thought the whole discussion of aesthetics was really interesting. I have this problem with the gnostic sorts who see people as only spiritual. The way you dress and present yourself is directly connected to your spirit. You cannot divorce the spiritual from the physical. Construction and beauty actually makes a difference in how we view places of government or places of worship.

Thanks for watching, Sam! Yes, it was actually kind of surreal to hang out with Christopher in my own living room! :) Also, I totally agree with your point about gnosticism and the disconnection to material reality. Pure gnosticism is just about as bad as pure materialism. I'm actually a lover of modernism in architecture, so I do depart in some ways from the trad types, but I also believe in permanent things and eternal principles. Our architectures says so much about who we are as a people and we should care more about it.

@@iWizard as someone who was raised in non denominational churches I hate how ugly they are compared to the beauty that the Catholics and heck even Muslims and Buddhists have to their places of worship.

Incredible conversation. The topic of boys/men reading is…vast

Thank you, sir! Yes, I'd like to do an entire episode on why men, to a large degree, have stopped reading books. I have some ideas. :)

A wonderful conversation about reading, history, and art. I've not read the Sun Eater books yet, though I would like to. I would also enjoy talking to Ruocchio if I ever got the chance. He seems very generous, even with smaller channels like my own. A beautiful rendition of Ulysses as well. *whispers* I also did a reading on my channel.

Thank you so much, Britton. Ruocchio is indeed very generous. I would work your way through the Sun Eater books first and then reach out to him. Cheers!

Amazing interview! Quick question, what inspired your youtube channel name? 🍍
@iWizard2 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! Good question. The name reflects the fact that this is a sci-fi and fantasy BookTube channel. The inspiration comes from Isaac Asimov's I, Robot stories, but I added "Wizard" in to signify the fantasy element. Also, I didn't want a punctuation mark in there, so to get rid of it I went with the "iPhone" style spelling.
