An Evening with John Bogle: From Wall Street to Your Street examines America's financial crisis and focuses on solutions and strategies for the average investor. Pam Krueger, co-host of the PBS series MoneyTrack, interviews legendary investor John Bogle about what happened on Wall Street and Americans' trust in the financial system. John Bogle imparts his wisdom on topics covering speculation and complexity versus simplicity in investing. The second half of the one-hour special consists of a town-hall meeting, where Bogle and Krueger answer questions from the audience while Jack Gallagher, co-host of MoneyTrack, takes questions out into the field. The special ends by summarizing "What We've Learned" and shows where viewers can find the resources to learn the basics of investor education and protection.

Jack Bogle was kind enough to let Vanguard become co-operative and owned by the public. He never wanted ownership of the Fund he founded. He died with a paltry net worth of 180 million$. In comparison, Fidelity founder, Edward Johnson made 8.2 billion or (8200 million$) by owning Fidelity. We are all forever indebted to Jack Bogle. Thank you sir!

Technically...E.T.F.s ARE mutual funds...they're just mutual funds in a different "wrapper"...which may or may NOT be preferable for you; based upon the underlying investments within them, and your individual circumstances/ objectives.

Me too. But I think he had made his point.... which is that aspirations should be tempered by the concept of Moderation. If, as in Valley of the Dolls, "too much is never enough", life is going to get difficult. Of the four cardinal, secular virtues, temperance is the most important because it protects prudence. The ONLY point of disagreement I would have with this LEGEND, is the notion of holding equities "forever". I prefer to adhere to the William Bernstein advice on equities ownership: "Once you've won the game..STOP PLAYING". He also advises, "Once you no longer have to take stock market risk..DON'T"! Obviously, "winning the game" will mean different things to different people.

I can only find one MILDLY disagree with one thing he said at about 11 minutes in: The "croupiers"( investment companies fees) take a disproportionate share of investors gains. Actally..their fees are "SMALL POTATOS", compared to the ULTIMATE "croupier"...the I...R...S!!!! Their take, is absolutely OBSCENE!

@11:55 Sorry to be "that guy" but the figures aren't right. 6% compounded over 50 years gives you 18 bucks not 11. You're getting about 40% of the return you could have got, not 25%. Still very scary.

You’re getting the 25% with your $18 dollars of compounded returns. He alluded that he was being conservative and that 9% was closer to the actual fifty year rate of return. With the 9% compounded rate, the investor is left with about 25% if one only captures 6%.
