I remember when I first discovered Rohr. He sounded so opinionated and self righteous I disliked listening and stopped, until about 2 years later when I re-stumbled on his videos, but this time it was completely different, I really understood the value of his teachings. Funny thing is, every once in a while in his speeches he will admit his faults of sounding opinionated and righteous sometimes, and now I just think "no, you're the best." I've been listenening for years. Those of us who appreciate him are so fortunate that there is so much online material from him.

He is a really good mix of understanding reality and having the knowledge and authority to relate that into the Christian teaching. Of belonging to the Christian order itself rather than coming from another religion. Christians have trouble hearing other religion. He is such an amazing phenomenon in this age.

Sometimes people use that comment to insinuate that the person is kinda lame, stubborn, willful, or a bit too lustfull and hasn't awakened enough yet. I say his path just has not had enough exposure, education and contemplation yet; possibly not enough reading or listening or debating yet ... Example; everything my 12 step friends had read, listened to and contemplared eventually led them to a natural progression towards umderstanding the big-good stuff..

We can incorporate a more robust view of the Trinity without lessening Jesus and who He was and what He came here to do. Jesus is the eternal Christ, but he also isn't, just as He is the Father, but He isn't. He's fully human, but He also isn't, and is fully divine. It's beyond us to truly understand it. Rohr comes very close to it, I believe, saying it's about the relationship between them more so than the singular being itself.

Living comfortably with a measure of unknowing is fine and freeing, mystics certainly did. It's the ego that insists on certitude. The opposite of faith is not doubt, but certitude. This insistence on theological certitude within individual christian denominations has caused great injury and division within the Body of Christ. Fr. Rohr's teachings have been a great spiritual gift to me.

God (who is Trinity) was talking to the other Elohim, who Job tells us danced and rejoiced as the Lord created us. They are made in his image too. It's just the heavenly host. Christ even made them, too. He made, and is in, everything seen and unseen. If that passage is the Trinity talking to itself, then we also have that same entity arguing and condemning itself later on. No, plural Elohim is simply a place of residence term..... the spirit realm (which is our meager term for something much grander). The Creator God was talking to His Heavenly Host, who He created before us.... "Let us make man in our image," but with the caveat that the Most High is the only creator. The other Elohim sang and danced with joy watching it all unfold.

If you're referring to a passage in Isaiah 59 where the prophet says, "You God, are too holy to look upon sin" (paraphrase), he goes on to say "So why do you?" Rohr does not believe in the efficacy of the blood of Jesus given for our salvation by God. He imagines in his redefined theology that it is too violent to understand God in that way when in Scripture it defines the depth of human depravity. Isaiah 53 “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him…. for the transgression of my people he was punished….Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin…” 1 Peter 1:18-19 “For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. @@opfipip3711 I get what you're saying, but i've seen enough christian denominations claiming to be the one true church that I have no confidence in any of them. Richard gives me a way to not only see God in the church, but God in my own life, and in everyone's life. I've always had a problem with hell, but I know that that's a personal problem and no real reflection of what God would and wouldn't do. I don't think Richard is totally right, but I do think there's a lot of truth in what he says, as well as other faiths. That's not to say that the other faiths are totally valid, but I'm honestly starting to consider that some truths are more important than others.. I think that pluralism might be the original intention of God. God always knew that the current cultural and religious landscape of the world would come to the way it is now, and I don't know if He'd want us to develop a single world religion, but I do know that diversity is divine, and division is demonic. Is there a way of seeing god's glory in all the contradiction, that fundamental nature of God is so inconceivably great that your relationship to God is more 'true' than the religion that gets you to orient yourself towards Him? I don't know. And I won't preach that as the truth, but I want it to be true, it makes so much sense to me. That being said, the facts don't care about my feelings and I'm I know that there is a real possibility, based on the teachings of the church and even other religions, that I may be giving up salvation for even talking to you about these things. God Bless you and I hope that, whatever you believe, love and peace reign in your life.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; (Rom 1:18) He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (Joh 3:36).
