An example where XLOOKUP loses to Index XMatch

XLOOKUP has been crowned the new king of Excel reference functions, even defeating the mighty index match. But it's not a complete victory. Here is an example of Index Match (more accurately - INDEX XMATCH) doing something that XLOOKUP cannot.

You could simplify this enormously by not having all the values in multiple tables. Use a single table with unique IDs to do look ups on. Is a lot simpler. Or better yet make three tables "Best case, worst case, management case", and have the rows as the different parameters. You're passing this off as Excel training yet can't structure a model in a decent way...

Of course you're right - you COULD structure it much more easily so that you would be able to use XLOOKUP without too much of a headache. Our prior videos on the topic do just that. We're showing an example of a limitation, where GIVEN a specific model structure your use of XLOOKUP is constrained. It's important to see this because often you don't have full control over the architecture of a model, or there are reasons that merit building it in a certain way.
