Simcha (meaning Happiness) explores the closed world of Hasidic women through the life stories of a powerful mother/daughter team who live in the Jewish ultra-orthodox community of North London. It shows Ita and Hindi in the workplace and at home preparing the shabbos meal - depict the crucial role of the woman in Hasidic religious life and nurturing Jewish identity. A passionate and unusually frank commentary.

I love this. As an ex-hasidic feminist, I love to ponder the question of life for conservative women. A lot of modern feminists will write these women off as oppressed, but conservative societies have their own narratives for women, their own spaces and strengths. I think there are ways in which these societies strengthen, while also limiting. Some women flourish in these circumstances, others whither.

Caring for those who put their lives on the line for their people. I work for Hasidic Jews but know little about them, only how to see that Kosher is kept. They will be free. I so respect them and want to learn their ways. I thank you for giving us this.

@@moysheschwartz400 I don't know how old you are but It's very possible that Ms.Reynolds is too far advanced in years to have a baby, even though some women are having babies after menopause. You are probably on the younger side and don't realize that sometimes it really could be too late. As you go through life you will learn that there are times when we can't say to someone what the Lubavitcher Rebbe said, אז ס'איז קיין מאל ניט פארפאלען.

@@moysheschwartz400 What I am trying to explain to you is that you should be careful about what you say and to whom you are saying it so that you don't hurt a person's feelings, especially a woman who doesn't have any children. Also, just because you're not a Lubavitcher chossid doesn't mean that it's okay for you to refer to the Lubavitcher Rebbe by his first name the way you just did. I would never refer to the Satmar Rebbe or the Steipler Gaon by their first names. It is not acceptable.

She's not kept barefoot & chained to the sink & why use derogatory terms like 'baby factory' for women who choose to do an amazing job of prioritizing family life & creating a stable happy home that produces stable, well-rounded adults? Those are the building blocks our society was once built on and we are all the poorer for having lost the solid foundation those tight, nuclear families once provided - it's certainly not a job for sissies!

@@pastelpurpledeathbed Being a parent who raises secure, emotionally healthy kids who thrive in life most certainly is - that should never be confused with being a 'housewife' - your being deliberately derogatory (perhaps you could have benefited from better parenting yourself....🤔)
