I has a relative who swore that she had psychic powers. I and another relative knew better, but it wasn't worth the effort to argue the point. I did prank her, though. She wanted to read my palm, and I said to the other relative, "watch this, I'll have her tell me X, Y, and Z... none of which are right." Sure enough, as she was reading my palm, I would do little movements, make a sound here and there like she'd hit the mark, and at the end of the reading, she told me X, Y, and Z. The other relative watching this was dying trying to keep a straight face.

Cold reading is a powerful tool in hands of all kinds fraudsters like mediums and clairvoyants. Faking your extinction is an interesting way to turn your Deathworld into a tourist trap. @@lunkystraydog6572 In the story, the alien is visiting Terra... the planet with the last (alleged) sighting of a Human. So the Terrans are still around, running shops that sell refreshments and hats. I was just commenting on how, if an alien *did* make a connection between Terrans and Humans, they'd wonder if Terrans are the reasons Humans disappeared *before* wondering if they're the same species.

Some humans want to be flashy, the center of attention. Other humans, we do our best work when noone pays us any mind.

Some like me hide by being flashy, loud and obvious. At times the louder and more obnoxious I am, the quicker people forget I'm there. Like a Zebra, sometimes the best camouflage is to be very zany.

@@SilvaDreams A semantical difference, though I concede the point. Fine, I use a "dazzling effect" which has done well by me. Instead of not speaking, I flood the room with interesting tangential thoughts so that people tune me out for their own sanity.

@@SilvaDreamsthe point still stands tho. You can hide in the literal sense yes and not draw attention to yourself but depending on what you’re hiding or your goal being very obvious with your presence is actually the best strategy. You know how many times I’ve gotten into places I shouldn’t have because I walked like I had somewhere to go and knew how to get there, and looked like I was supposed to be there? Even places like where I reasonably should have been questioned based on my outfit or age I rarely did bc if you look like you’re supposed to just be another person in the background of any given area most will see you as such. People aren’t generally something we have to be super focused on at all times, especially ones you don’t have any reason to approach so it’s easy for our brains to file them in the background folder of our awareness

The 1st story: I don't know which is worse the entire galaxy except for the science aliens or they're really really sheltered. Maybe everyone actually likes them and just plays along so they have something to focus on that isn't too dangerous for them to mess with. Which way did he go George? Which way did he go? In "disguise" ah, that a way! Gee, thanks, George! George: I still have *No* idea who they're looking for. Nor why they keep calling me George.
