Ive heard this "quote" about several covers......this here I think may be Urban Legend. Check the source. Paul Simon DID recognize and reach out to someone in Disturbed"s staff.(I watched a clip somewhere). I don't believe the words written in this reply is a direct quote. Please feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken.

It is 2,5 octaves actually, what he does in this song. It's incredible.

As an old hippie myself, I love this version. To me the S & G version was a warning, and this version was the "You Damn fools...you didn't listen." This version to me gives the angst the lyrics convey. And I disagree...never be afraid to state what you believe, no matter the possible backlash.

For me, the original is a passive observation. This one feels like the call to action. In the end, he's still reaching out, trying to teach. And the music video (which I saw after this version) drives that home with the visual of the musicians crossing the water toward the people. I think this version speaks the message better than any other.

Completely agree. It feels like Simon & Garfunkel were warning us about what was happening and where we were headed, whereas Disturbed's version is full of angst and anger because people have not listened. Amazing cover.

This. 💯. I was going to comment pretty much the same thing. The message needed to come across different..more urgent now as things are coming to a breaking point and the one's who see it or have solutions are staying quiet, hoping it'll all go away or someone else will do or say something about it. ✌️&❤️

As an old (81) fogie and folkie, i first heard the S&G version off their Wednesday Morning album in 1964. I loved it, and thought it couldn't be improved upon. In '65, I discovered I was wrong. Then I watched Conan, and this happened. I was unaware of the Disturbed version, and when Conan introduced them, I thought this would be a good time to go to the kitchen. Boy, was I wrong! I sat, transfixed, through the entire number. I realize that, as of now, there are 4 versions. Original, electrified, Pentatonix and Disturbed. Each with their own identity, and each great. I play them all, and enjoy them all. I came to realize that I didn't just like folk music, I liked Good music, and it didn't matter who made it.

Dinged that chord in my DNA placed there by God IMHO. Simon&Garfunkel penned it but this guy drove the point home. We, humankind, like those instruments are broken. But there's an answer that's whispered in the most unlikely of places. His facial expressions goes from merely conversational as he relates the dream to a realization of what the dream means to incredulity then anger/rage that humankind is turning a deaf ear...Great performance by ALL of them...the piano player with the pensive notes, the guitar adding lift and the drummer bringing it home...AMEN & AMEN!!!!!💕

I’m an old woman…I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel and always loved their music. Still, I believe Disturbed have made an iconic classic into a modern, emotional, powerful masterpiece. If people are too closed-minded to even give someone else’s perspective a chance, they don’t deserve to be taken seriously.

What I love about this cover is how it feels like it continues the story of the original. S&G sang it like it was a dream they had, like a prophecy they were singing to the night. David sings it like he heard the prophecy, and he is seeing around him how people ignored it and it came to pass, now he is both angry and heartbroken by it. I can’t listen to this cover without getting chills and teary eyed. They did amazing work.

It’s hard to believe that anyone would react in such a negative way to this. I sent this to my older siblings that loved the original version, as well as my nieces and nephews. They were all blown away. You really have to be open minded to accept anything so extremely different from what you’re use to, no matter how good it is. The first time I heard this version was on Conan. It gave me goosebumps. I tried to hide my reaction from my Guy. When I started to tear up, I looked over at him and he was doing the same. ♥️👍

This song reminds of MANY bible verses, and it was written 50 years ago!.,, GOD KNEW HIS Word would always reach all generations..,, But , no one is listening to HIM!!!.., ITS ABOUT THE WORDS>>>WORDS, NOT THE MUSIC>>>>>I learned these very words over 50 years ago and they are straight from the WORD of GOD!.., This is NOT about the music, it is about our changes of common sense thinking for decades now, people have changed and not for the better.., Discipline is coming soon for our disobedience to God and HIS plan and how many have made up their own Neon Gods to replace the TRUE GOD.,, Our SILENCE against the LORD is LOUD AND CLEAR, the LORD will not tolerate out Arrogance much longer!!!.,, The LORD gives us SIGNS, EVERY SINGLE DAY, but what do we do, WE stay SLIENT, instead of SHOUTING from the mountain top, to CEASE from our EVILS!.,, WE IGNORE HIM!!!.., LOOK at how the Gov. has separated our country, we NO LONGER communicate, face to face, we no longer share the WORD or the music of the LORD in our schools and campuses.,, These are all now against the law says the Gov..., So why do we NOW follow the plan of Satan and give our GOD GIVEN RIGHTS to the criminals of CHRIST??
