Thank you Steve Beaton, for being a true ambassador for the sport. Always a gentleman, one of the OG’s. I will miss your no nonsense approach, and the smoothest throw of them all.

Hats Off...to Steve Beaton...Mr Bronze Adonis himself ...I don't know whether that nickname was taken from greek mythology or gods of some kingdom...whatever or where ever that came from, Steve was a god in darts...a Mega star that came about the time other gods were darting the last Summer wine Bristol,Lowe Wilson. First saw Steve in the Leicester Open on the stage in the finals being held at the Dr Monford Halls...At that time the most popular t.v detective was Magnum...Steve wouldn't have been outshone if they'd be standing shoulder to shoulder, a think there was a style at time 'gold tints'. Great Player who made the game look ridiculously easy, just like writing a letter, and throwing the pen at the dartboard ......try it if you think it's that easy! Always been interested in where he was in darts since Leicester. Everybody needs to remember that he was No1 in the World. I hope he opts to still play in Seniors darts, he'll ruffle a few feathers if he does. Whatever happens from, thank you Steven for the listen and the watch, darts is losing one of brightest stars and the night sky and sky darts, along with any future broadcasts will be poorer without you.

It's very interesting that 'The Bronze Adonis seems to have chosen Leicester to draw the curtain on his glittering career in darts, l saw him in Demontfort Hall on stage at the business end of the Leicester Open, l can't honestly remember whether he won the tournament or not, he was pretty young maybe close to 20 years old, I'm just wondering if this was a pivotal time in his blossoming skill as a dart player and has remained a pleasant memory of where things were beginning to happen, I'm pretty lucky at being in the right venue where special dart players are, I was in Nottingham at a place, back in day called 'The Sherwood Rooms, there was young guy there in the stage finals, who would have fitted in very well at this 'ghostly time of year were having, and just a short few weeks on, a now infamous checkout of 138 would put out 'The Crafty Cockney Eric Bristol, to become a World Champion....'dracula'..Keith Deller. I wonder did Leicester feel like a closing chapter for 'The Adonis'. Steve Beaton remained competitive for so long, and even in that last game with Zonneveld 'went to wire'!
