This was a cool and very informative video. I’m definitely not mad at the “Chill breakcore” mixes that proliferated KZbin in the last 5-6 years. It kinda seemed like the logical continuation of internet music after seapunk/vaporwave/and bands like machinegirl got internet popular. A lot of it is really just pulling all the good sounds from the 90s and early 2000s and changing them aesthetically to appeal to new demographics. I grew up in the black metal/crust and noise music scene and wouldn’t be caught dead at a rave at the time, but I definitely secretly listened to jungle, aphex twin, and IDM shit so it’s nostalgic and cool to see these genres meshing together and these artists making great music.

I like to combine the sweet sounds of modern breakcore with the abrasive chaos of traditional breakcore
@ihave500hats
@ihave500hats Жыл бұрын
I had a conversation with a friend about this exact thing (the need for a new classification of the modern "breakcore") recently. When I watched this video I though "hey that's what I'm saying!" The evolution of music under a certain genre's label often goes this way, and eventually gets reclassified later on. I've never touched tiktok and I got into the modern breakcore community through making "glitchart" (I'm referring to the kind of art you often see on modern breakcore artists song covers, not the origins of glitchart), I started listening to Jvne, strxwberrymilk, and FlowerBoyDeMii. I've been entranced by the atmospheric side of breakcore and so I began to dig deeper, learning about Doormouse, Ove-NaXx and others, and then I was blown away by the contrast of these two sides, under the same genre. I still find the genre to be fun, and I've (through bandcamp) discovered much weirder stuff, such as lolicore, zundacore, amenpunk, mashcore. It's quite a weird world to dive into and listen to, but some of the stuff is geniunely experimental and intriguing as hell. summary - I agree, good educational vid Q: is Loli (Rory) in early 20s, more og style breakcore or not?

first off, I agree it would be nice to have a modern classification we could lump all these new styles into, but the thing is... I think these classifications already exist... the zoomers these days are making and listening to one of the following: atmospheric, liquid or (rarely) breakbeat DnB, jungle, amenpunk or mashcore... pretty much everything popular nowadays falls into one of these. as for Loli in early 20s, it's more modern for sure, though one track that features more OG breaks (along with hardcore beats) is 彼女が12-14年間自分を切, highly recommend that track. lastly, if you want some OG breakcore made by old and new artists, I'll recommend a mixture: some of the artists still making what could be considered "real" breakcore would be pencil, Shimoda and Mekuso, otherwise I recommend LAF-O, Cardopusher, Datach'i, The Flashbulb, Sickboy, Foxdye, LFO Demon, Epsilon, Stazma, Ladyscraper... I could offer more but I think that's enough for one comment 😅

@toymangamer121
@toymangamer121 Жыл бұрын
What? Dreamcore is at its core a visual aesthetic that is meant to give off the feelings that dreams do and is usually surrealist and calm in nature. The images tend to use pastel colors and have landscapes that are fantastical or weird and will often have characters in them that have objects or eyes for heads. It is very similar to weirdcore but with a lack of the unsettling nature of a lot of weirdcore When it comes to music being labeled as "dreamcore" it can range from Jack Stauber to Windows96. With this being the case "Dreamcore Songs" can really be from multiple genras, but the thing that makes them the same is that they can sometimes go along with Dreamcore images and that people like to put them in youtube playlists for depressed people to listen to. However, the only times I have seen anything close to breakcore in any "Dreamcore" playlist was with the occasional Sewerslvt song and 1 playlist that I saw that was mislabeled as "wierdcore/dreamcore" and was full of DnB songs and had an anime girl as the imagery of the playlist rather than Dreamcore or Wierdcore. Another thing that muddies the waters about dreamcore being an actual genre is that most song playlists are labeled “dreamcore/weirdcore” and sometimes even “tramacore” which only makes the definition for this "genre of music" more confusing. All of this goes to show that this "New breakcore" that you are talking about is not actually dreamcore and by calling it that we would only be making dreamcore more confusing. Also this "new breakcore" is not new at all and already has genres to be put in like liquid/ambient Drum and Bass and atmospheric Jungel or just breakcore if its just breakcore.

I'm a zoomer who only got into breakcore in the past few years so Idk how it is to say this but I feel that the non-atmospheric, less-weeby version of breakcore is still being kept alive and relevant by those playlists of "Breakcore to cure your ADHD". Again though I'm relatively new and not sure whether that's an accurate assessment. All I know is that I personally prefer the non-atmospheric, pure chaos side of Breakcore more than I enjoy the otherside, I respect SewerSlvt a lot because, just like most people of this generation probably did, I got into Breakcore because of her, but honest to God she only has like 3 songs I actually enjoy, I can only listen to the same drumbeat on a different sample so many times before I need more variation I'm sorry

It's not because "the internet got its hands on it", Breakcore has always been primarily proliferated through the internet, it's always been a "nerd" genre. The thing is that the internet has changed since 2007, it's now incredibly hard to have an underground scene on the internet when literally almost everyone is on it and shit like tiktok and other algorithm monsters are herding them into cages.
@mercoro

For the Internet (aka tiktok users) who have suffered extreme brainrot due to their short attention spam and low IQ, anything with -core in the end of the word is something "different" and cool.

Got into it a bit over the course of my bachelor's degree and went from "what is this shit" with things like the GUNSLINGER-R shitpost albums by CDR and some of the compilation albums on "The Worst" label to genuinely enjoying some of the other things I found by people like Vaenus, Emray, Bethas and goreshit. Anime-ified and safe breakcore is a bit too saturated now on sites like bandcamp, but there's still a decent variety of it from the typical hyperactive quick beats to more somber tones or even stupid as hell meme music. Overall one of the more interesting subgenres that paved my descent into more experimental genres.
