I have one and i like it a lot, its my favorite pencil. There are also plastic versions with characters on them like sanrio, snoopy, disney etc (i have a sanrio cinnamonroll version). It is very nice to write and doodle with, but it is not good for writing in cursive or drawing veryy long lines, because it only turns slightly when you take your pencil off the paper. I have used it for nearly 2 years.

Please note: The rotating pencil lead only works if you use this mechanical pencil for writing. If, like me, you use mechanical pencils for drawing, then the pencil lead will still wear down along one edge, as the lead only rotates after several pencil strokes. Quite a few reviews from artists have shown that you will still form a flattened edge on the pencil lead if you use this mechanical pencil for shading and drawing.

Before you buy a very common problem with these pencils is the fact that the plastic is very weak. It can easily burst out the front of not taken utmost care of. If you like the mechanism and have the money buy one of the upgraded versions of the kuru toga such as the rubber grip or roulette

These pencils are especially effective when writing languages based around characters (like Chinese, Japanese, and Korean). This is because while writing these languages, you need to pick up the pencil a lot more than writing something like English, where you can write whole words without picking it up once, especially in cursive. Since you're picking up the lead at least once per character or even multiple times per character, the kuru toga engine keeps the lead sharp.

I love kuru toga pencils. I've had the same one for years and they always write excellently. I have a 0.5mm so it writes extra fine. the only problem with most of the kuru togas is that the eraser is tiny and you basically need to either stock up on replacements or get used to a seperate eraser. I love the erasers that are long and you click them out as you use them.

I have one of these and if you need it for writing (cursive, without picking up the pencil from the paper every line that you draw) or technical drawings (where you draw a lot of longer lines), it doesn't rotate the lead quick enough to make a difference. You still need to rotate by hand. It only works if you draw a lot of small lines and thus pick up and press on the lead often which makes the lead rotate by a tiny angle every time. For example, when you write Japanese or Chinese characters. But for nothing else so much.
