Great video with a little further insight into your weathering mastery. I guess if the weathering powders slowly rattle off the rolling stock, it will add a little more realistic grime detail around the track! I got excited when you said N gauge, thought you might have had a little shelf layout somewhere we might see one day. Cheers for sharing.

The more I look the more I need to weather mine. I have 117 box vans on my workbench at the moment all needing weathering, having had wheels changed from plastic to metal and couplings changed from Farish plastic chunks to DGs. The one thing I am afraid of Mr R. is the number I should weather at any one time as I feel if I try large batches I might end up with too many looking the same. It was 92f in the model room yesterday (thanks to my clear roof sheeting) so just warm enough for me to sit out there for a couple of hours. Thanks for the excellent demo. Cheers, Bob

Thanks for showing us your weathering methods! I myself have settled on brush-applied acrylic washes after a coat of matt clear. I've found that mixing "grimy black" (essentially a very dark gray warmed with a bit of brown) and a grayish tan in different proportions does a good job of simulating grime, dirt, and dust. For these washes I use craft store acrylics thinned with windshield/windscreen washer fluid. I do roof rust treatments (with siennas, umbers, and a gray metal color) before the washes and add body mud splashes after the washes are dry. I then apply another matt clear coat. Of course, this approach can be rather tedious, but my layout is small so my car fleet is fairly small. Cheers from Wisconsin!

Good useful video! I find when applying the weathering powder and then applying a matte varnish some of the powder effect comes off when I brush the varnish on ruining the finish. How do I get around this?
@MouldyRaspberry Жыл бұрын
Thanks Matt. I’m not really sure to be honest, I’d probably apply the powders much more heavily so that when some comes off, it still looks about right. Or just keep applying powders then varnish in layers?
@mattseymour8637 Жыл бұрын
@@MouldyRaspberryNo worries well personally I like a clean loco with some light weathering but I do more preserved locos. If you want to tone it down a bit I guess you could apply a light dusting of powders to give a slightly dirty look.

Great technique, however try and avoid brushing off the fibres with your fingers. Those are nasty if they embed themselves in your skin.

And it looked like your hand was in the spray at one point, Lewis. At high enough pressure the paint can penetrate skin.
