Although the end credits proves that as long as humans are there, the notion of true world peace cannot be achieved, and the cycle repeats itself.. I think Zeke and Armin's conversation is the thing that gives hope the most.. to live for the small moments with our loved ones is one of the best things we can do with our lives.

In short, people who don't like the ending are those who fell in love with cold-blooded Chad Eren from season 4. The one who didn't care for Mikasa, was non-emotional, efficient, powerful. They didn't like the fact that he died, that he cried about his feelings for Mikasa, that he took responsibility for his actions etc. I don't think they understand that it was all a mask Eren took to push his friends away for their own protection. Also, that his head was all messed up because of these powers. They just wanted Eren to be all Chad until the end. But that's silly. That's not who Eren ever was. He was always an emotional teen who would've done anything for his friends. This ending was perfect for him.

You don't have to idolize a genocidal monster to not like how the show ended although I really can understand being disappointed with the cold-blooded "I will protect my people no matter the cost" turning out to just be a curtain that the broken and sniveling slave was cowering behind. My only real issue is the utter garbage mid-credit scenes that are completely at odds with the direction the story went after Erwin's death. Also while I didn't really want any of them to die, the fact that everyone survives the suicide mission after so many 'omg' moments that turned out to all be fake-outs feels out of place and belongs in a more traditional over the top shonen rather than the more grim and unyielding show that Attack on Titan has previously been.

I think the problem a lot of people have with the ending is the fact that Eldia is attacked in the future due to Eren not completing 100% of the Rumbling. However, the author’s intent was to demonstrate that no matter what, humanity will always fight against each other. Hypothetically speaking, even if Eren did complete the Rumbiling and only Eldians exist, they would eventually find a reason to fight in a long enough timeline. The case that Eldians fighting Eldians is better than the world fighting Eldians makes no sense. At the end of the day, people will always fight people regardless of their shared or unshared blood/ancestry. The point of Attack on Titan is to show the viewers that humanity will always fight itself - whether it be by difference of race or not. The world is cruel and no Rumbiling could ever stop human hate from propagating itself again in the future. We can see it with our world today, there’s been two world wars already and the fighting still continues.
@jamharry836 Жыл бұрын
Eldian was ruled by a corrupt aristocracy before the breach of the walls then led by militant fascists... then there was Floch executing foreigners or coerced them into servitude. If anything the Eldian Empire has shown itself to be the same tyrant that ruled for nearly 2000 years, even without their memories.
@JaketheMovieGeek11 ай бұрын
Yes, the point is that it’s not Titans that cause conflict. It’s in human nature. Erwin even says in season 3 “Peace between man will never be. Not until our numbers fall to 1 or less” And you don’t even have to wait in the timeline for Eldians to fight each other. We see it in seasons 3-4. Heck we see human conflict in the first episode. Timeline wise we see conflict before Titans are even created. The point is that it’s just human nature

The end is kinda up to interpretation I think. Mikasa wrote "Here forever rest peacefully, my most beloved, my dear. 854" on Eren's grave. The first two times Mikasa visits Eren's grave she put four roses which means nothing will come between two people who love each other but cannot be together / tragic love. So with the boy and the tree at the end, I think the point in that moment is to show that history actually wouldn't repeat itself. The boy is hopeful. Unlike Ymir who had lost all hope in humanity, the boy is visibly 'free' to explore on his own. Instead of being chased by dogs to eat him, he has one as a companion. It's obviously not explicitly told to us what would become of him after he found that tree, but the creation of the first titan was a manifestation of Ymir herself. The outcome almost certainly would not be the same this time around, and history will not necessarily repeat in that way. I think that's the point in this scene, though you never really can know with Isayama :)

People act like Eren’s outburst about Mikasa is somehow out of character, but it’s not? Eren has always been an overly emotional teenager who lets his passion run wild. All through seasons 1-3 we see him wear his heart on his sleeve. What’s truly out of character is his “don’t give a fuck” stoic attitude throughout season 4. Of course this is intentional on Isyama’s part, as Eren’s friends even point out that he isn’t acting like himself. Something is obviously wrong. Yet somehow a huge portion of the fanbase have convinced themselves that this is Eren’s true personality. So when we get to this final scene between Eren and Armin they think it’s a huge betrayal to his character to have him show so much vulnerability. Except it’s not. This is Eren reverting back to that passionate, overly emotional teenage boy. This is one of the few moments post time skip where he drops the facade and lets his true feelings out. People who think Eren is supposed to be this sigma male badass just really missed the point
@GodofGoblins Жыл бұрын
Facts. To add to this, eren is putting up a facade in front of his friends. But in that moment with his best friend, he can be 100% his true self and not put up any fake ruse. And when it comes to love, yes most of us would get emotional talking about the one we love. We may not admit it due to ego and other crap, but eren was free to let go and be honest. Felt genuine and real, and I assume a lot of guys didn't like it because we hate seeing a guy be that vulnerable. But it is what it is. He loves her and wants to be with her. Sounds about right.

Perfect Ending. A masterpiece. Eren sacrificed himself to end the titans, he saved his friends from death, since they were titan bearers, and in the end paradis was destroyed, I'm just sad about Mikasa's ending, even though she lived for 4 years with Eren on the paths . Mikasa did what Ymir couldn't. This was what Ymir was hoping to see. Someone who could kill/turn her back on the one she loved. Mikasa was able to do this. Ymir wasn't there. That's why she was subservient to the King for 2,000 years, waiting for someone (Mikasa) to show her that it was possible. Interesting fact: In the final scene, where the young man is about to enter the tree, the music (二千年... 若しくは... 二万年後の君へ・・・ · Linked Horizon ) eren's voice says: 2000 年もしくは2万年後の君 - For you in 2000 or 20,000 years... I'm glad you guys appreciate armin and eren's convo, especially when eren breaksdown. He's just a kid too, more like teenager but still young to experience all of this. And it makes him more human, those emotions, and he's more like our first-third season Eren. The cycle of violence continues because you just can't take violence away from humans, even if hundreds or thousands of years passed, humans will always find ways to continue fighting each other. Humans never learns. And that's how human life works. Look at the situation of our world, of other countries. There's some point where we ask ourselves, “When will humans stop slaughtering each other?” I realized that we can achieved peace, but it's only temporary, we can't have everlasting peace. So focus on the small things while you can. Like in Zeke and Armin's convo. In my own perspective, Paradis is getting involved in different war in the future, it's either that or other nations taking revenge. Like what Eren said, that conflict won't stop there. However, that doesn't make eren's sacrifice goes for nothing. He was able to drive titans away (even if means he needs to be killed) and give his friends long lives. I'm not sure if the cycle would continue because Ymir has finally got her closure and she disappears. Does the cycle will continue because a kid suddenly showed up in the end and found the tree? What would be the reason? Those are my questions. It's an amazing journey with you girls, dedicate your hearts!!

I am a fan of AOT in Japan🇯🇵 This is a long story, but I urge you to read this statement😢 precaution❗️ This is just one way of thinking in Japan, and it is not the mainstream way of thinking in Japan. It is only a matter of opinion. Some people in other countries think that the last scene is the one where the boy gets the power of the titan again and the same thing happens again and nothing has changed, but It is said that one can think of it differently in Japan. The boy is the Fool of Tarot cards and represents freedom. What this means is that in contrast to Founder Ymir ,who was bound by King Fritz and fell into a hole in a tree while being chased by hounds, the free boy who entered the hole with the dogs is interpreted as a sign that hope is gradually emerging and leading to a peaceful world, even amid the repeated cycle of human despair. It is important to move forward while repeating the process, just as the tires of a car move forward while spinning.

We were given an opportunity to try to understand what can push a human being to do such evil things. How rightousness can give birth to wrong. How doing things out of pure love without the guidance of logic can lead to pure evil. How without thought or reflection followed by proper action, we will continue to make the same mistakes that would lead to a similar cycle for ourselves and more importantly for our children. Mikasa is not married to anyone. Please read Hajime Isayama's book entitled Attack on Titan Guidebook. It says "Mikasa is not married". That's all the information about Mikasa until Mikasa died. But based on the sentence in Hajime Isayama's book, there are several theories developing among fans of manga readers to explain this, such as. 1. If you read the manga, it's clear that Mikasa still wears the bandage covering the Hizuru symbol on her hand. If Mikasa marries and has children, the symbol must be passed on to her children, but Mikasa still keeps the symbol, which means that Mikasa is not married and does not have children. 2. Apart from that, in both manga and anime, you can see each panel per frame. There is a frame where Mikasa comes with Jean and a child. That's Jean's child with a woman who is reading a history book that Jean mentions when he is on the ship to Paradise. 3. There are also those who think that Mikasa comes with Armin and a child, because in the anime panel you can see his hair. The man who came with Mikasa was bright colored like gold. Meanwhile, Jean's hair is dark brown. And that child is Armin's child with Anie. 4. Then there is another panel that shows them arriving, Mikasa in front with Armin with bright gold hair, behind her there is a woman carrying a child, possibly Anie and her child with Armin. At the back you can see Jean with his wife and 3 children. 5. Next panel shows Mikasa looks unhealthy and uses a cane. This is possible, seen from the development of the city between each panel until this panel shows that Mikasa lives not too long based on population growth theory and the city behind it. But Mikasa is experiencing poor health because of her overwhelming feeling of loss. 6. Another panel shows Mikasa died and was buried near Eren's gravestone while still wearing a red scarf and decorated with white flowers which symbolize Purity and virginity. Mikasa probably died 10 years after Eren's death. 7. Another panel shows Jean coming alone near the tree, Jean is still not too old, still walking upright and looks mature. 8. Another panel shows that City development has increased a lot, there is an old Armin who comes and uses a cane to visit Mikasa and Eren's grave. 9. Hajime Isayama's sentence in the Attack on Titan guide book is "Mikasa is not married". Apart from the theory above, you can see it on the Pony Canyon KZbin channel. There is an official closing for the final series of Attack on Titan which has been released. You can see the fan theory regarding the panel's description and Hajime Isayama's sentence which is reinforced by this official closing which shows that Mikasa remains loyal to Eren because Eren is still by her side. Although in the end Mikasa had to die early (estimated 10 years after Eren's death) because her longing and loss was so great

The ending with the little boy isn't actually a cliffhanger which some people interpreted as a teaser for a spin-off or something. I AoT, Sasha's father repeately brings up the metapher to "leave the forest". If you're entering the forest, you'll get confronted with hatred and conflict, but how will you deal with it? Will you stay in the forest, succumb to your hatred which only leads to more conflicts and more hatred, or will you be able to leave the forest, leave behind your hatred and maybe will be able to find friends and begin to understand other people? Ymir Fritz entered the forest (aka the tree with the cave) but was never able to leave it. Therefore, the Titan powers were born, which only led to wars, suffering and bloodshed. The boy at the end resembles future humanity (after the story of AoT), which also gets confronted with hatred. Now the question is, will the boy (and therefore humans alltogether) be able to deal with that hatred better than Ymir (aka the humans of the past) did? We don't know. That's up to every individual to decide. And that's what I love about the ending of AoT. It leaves many questions open, question everyone, who watched the anime (or read the manga) has to answer themself. That's at least my interpretation of that scene.
@gerald9992 Жыл бұрын
I think you also have to consider the circumstances surrounding both entrances. When Ymir entered the tree she did so out of fear and desperation, the little boy on the other hand is entering with a sense of adventure and curiosity
@angriboi Жыл бұрын
@@gerald9992 That's why I see Ymir and the creation of Titan powers only as a symbol for the humans of the past. It was the people hunting her and King Fritz, who gave the order, who were acting out of hatred. Ymir herself only acted out of fear and self-defense. It was humans altogether back then, who couldn't deal with that hatred in a good way and weren't able to leave the forest.

A few fun facts: 1) Eren didn't open his eyes during rumbling, he opened his eyes in his last breath just to see Mikasa 2) Mikasa wrote “Here forever rest peacefully, my most beloved, my dear. 854” on Eren’s grave. The first two times Mikasa visits Eren’s grave she put four roses which means nothing will come between two people who love each other but cannot be together / tragic love. The last time she put one rose which means “you are still THE one". 3)A white flower was placed during her death, which symbolizes purity and virginity. So, taken together, Mikasa's flowers send the message that she won't forget Eren, she still loves him (but believes he can no longer love her back), she will remain devoted to him, and she is waiting. 4)They spent 4 years living together in Paths (ch. 138) And only when he “passed away” there, was she able to kill him in the real world. (it was a gift to them from Ymir) 5)In the ending credits where Eren and Mikasa were buried, an old man Armin still visiting their graves. He was the last to die from the trio, just like when they were kids running to the tree, he was the last one who reaches the tree. I just copy paste from @2DTL

I'm glad those ladies understood the ending and it's meaning. Yes conflict repeat itself (I don't think it's just a case of "the word attack Paradis" but conflict in general). Eren didn't fight to stop the cycle of violence/war but to have peace for a few generations. for his friends. Is it selfish ? Yes. But everyone is, especially in this world. Add to that He and the whole squad wanted a world without titans. They succeeded. Like Historia said, the ppl left alive will need to choose. War, Peace, conflict, friendship. Then, like shown in the outro, ppl choose to fight... again. I think it's a beautifull ending. The cruel world of AoT is NOT something to hope for but something to avoid.

Also the show being 10 years long lasted from when I got out of highschool until being 29 years old! So I also grew with this show. I'm so glad people liked the ending in the anime. I didn't hate the manga ending but the anime fixed a lot of the issues it had in the dialogue. For example, when Eren and Armin hugged and talked about going to hell with each other, it was completely different in the manga. Armin said "Eren... thank you.. for turning yourself into a mass murderer for our sake. I swear I won't let this transgression go to waste." Eren replies with "I don't know what'll happen after I die, but I know that you can go beyond the walls. The one who will save humanity is you, Armin" and the scene ends. They didn't even really cry. I think it was just a translation issue, but the "Thank you for turning yourself into a mass murderer" got memed on a lot.

AOT now has been cemented as one of my favorite shows of all time; not just in anime. The Battlestar Star Galactica reboot show is another one of my all time favorites. When I watched the last scene walking into the tree, I was thinking of a line from BSG: “All this has happened before. All this will happen again.”

Naturally, this story was created, but I think Professor Isoyama made this work because he wanted people to understand various things in the real world. For example, the scene that left a lasting impression on me was the scene where Nicolo tries to avenge Sasha. I think that story is about the never-ending hatred that war has brought about. So I was impressed by the story because it showed how meaningless war is, and how it only creates sadness and hatred. Of course, human beings have different desires and values, so I don't think we can all get along peacefully. However, I think that if each and every one of us can change our consciousness toward peace, even if only just a little, we will have a better future. I hope that everyone who will live in this world from now on will not forget what they learned from Attack on Titan.

I think people misunderstand the end. The "life" under the tree is not the titan power. Titan is what Ymir created, the "life" gave her the power to make her WISH come true. So in the end scene, the boy and his dog will not obtain the titan power, but his wish. Whether history repeats itself depends on the boy or, more precisely, humanity.

Mikasa’s ending is full of interpretations/vagueness. As we see her visiting with a guy that has a blurred face and a kid, which many assumed it’s Jean. But here are the reasons why she didn’t marry him: 1. Scarf - she kept it until death meaning she couldn’t let go and would love him till the end. This is her engagement ring as the voice actor of Armin said. 2. Azumabito mark - though not shown in the anime, she died with the mark. Her mom told her to pass it down to her kids. Why did Mikasa keep it? 3. Orphanage - in the short stories by Isayama, there’s a conversation of Historia&Mikasa which gave us a clue that Mikasa might work in the orphanage. 4. Shawl - only Historia wears a shawl. We see Mikasa wearing a shawl which meant she might be working there and adopted a kid eventually. 5. EMA - THIS ONE IS VERY IMPORTANT it’s always been Eren, Mikasa, Armin from the start to finish. We started with Eren, Mikasa, Armin running to the tree and to end it with Jean & Mikasa scenes/panels DON’T make sense at all. It’s not Isayama-like, the god of parallels. 6. Hairstyle - armin had the same hairstyle as Jean in isayama’s sketches 7. When Eren told her to forget him and throw away the scarf when he dies, she said “she can’t.” And she stayed true to this until her death. 8. Eren’s grave- the translation of the words in his grave is “here forever, resting peacefully, my most beloved.” At the end of her life, she was buried next to him. If that’s not love, what is? 9. The child - back to the orphanage talk, mikasa is an orphan herself, it would make sense that she helps Historia and eventually adopts a kid. She knows what it’s like to be an orphan. For her to become a family to an orphan connects back to what Eren did for her. 10. Flowers - notice how she’s surrounded by different colors of flowers - each color means something for each flower. Some people say there’s white lilies which symbolize purity. Some say it’s a bunch of different colors of roses like for example white roses. White roses means a “new beginning” (in Japanese culture) but in other cultures it means “purity” “mourning” etc. There are other flowers which I’m not sure what they are. 11. The Ring - (THIS IS ANIME ONLY SINCE THERE’S NOTHING LIKE THAT IN THE MANGA) wedding rings are worn on the left hand, and so are Chastity rings. I feel like I don’t need to explain what chastity rings are. The wedding ring she wore doesn’t actually tell us she married Jean as this might’ve symbolize her love and commitment for Eren forever. “Till death to us part” as they say, and she did love him till her last breathe. 12. The ending song “Itterashai by Ai Higuchi”- The lyrics is literally a love letter for Eren. It sings about her longing and desire to see and be with him again. Also, the visuals showed us their reunification in the afterlife. How so? The music video starts with Mikasa alone and jumps in the water to show that she’s six feet under. Next we see her floating above the water with her eyes close, SURROUNDED BY FLOWERS. In her burial, she is surrounded by flowers. And then, we see her spending time with Eren, implying that she’s dreaming. At the end of the video, we see her open her eyes, and voila! Eren is holding her hands and there’s a butterfly. In Japanese culture, butterflies are a symbol of “resurrection, rebirth, and the triumph of spirit and soul over a physical prison.” The ending song literally showed us that Mikasa only loved Eren until the end of her life. This makes me believe that she didn’t marry anyone. Whether she got married or not, it’s a fact that Mikasa stayed in love with Eren until the end. I feel like many people see her love as a chain binding her down after her death. She’s a slave to her love for Eren as they say. But I feel differently, loving Eren is her way of expressing freedom. When Eren told her to forget him and be free and said that she can’t. She chose that decision herself. It is her own free-will to remember and continue to long for him. Because she knew they would meet again someday hence “See You Later.” As I said, it’s full of interpretations. Therefore my interpretation of Mikasa being with Jean (which I think is Armin) is “What if Jean is only looking out for her?” A lot of people overlook this question.

Regarding the easter egg about the boy walking into the tree hole. At the first glance it seems like history will repeat itself.However, in my opinion,its completely different because at this time the boy “made his own decision” to go into the tree hole, which is different from being “forced” to hide. The Ymir who enters the tree hole is different, and the BGM doesn’t feel like lamenting the sadness of history repeating itself, but more like a “turning point” that brings about change.

Historia and Ymir loved each other. So does that mean Historia didn't marry someone else or raise a kid? It is absolutely cruel to expect Mikasa to waste more than 60 years of her life living is misery and melancholy, mourning over Eren, with no companion or future desecendants, something even Eren would never want. In the final scenes, She once visits the tree with the kid accompanied by a man, dressed exactly as Jean was dressed in Marely (S4, Ep1), and again as an old woman accompanied by the same man and her children. Who else, but her husband, would accompany her to visit Eren's grave twice over so many years? Until Isayama himself says that Mikasa never married and had kids, the evidence from the end credits point to the contrary.

My two favorite moments are armin taking responsibility for those acts along with eren so he doesn't feel the weight of it all alone and eren telling armin that he loved mikasa, I think we had forgotten that he was still the same boy he was before, he was just forced to do certain things in order to achieve his goal, he still had feelings and didn't want to die he just broke down as a 19 year old boy with his best friend.

Keep in mind that Titans existed cause Ymir wanted a big strong body to protect herself. Meaning if this Kid in the end credits does find the weird worm again, it most likely won’t just being titans back. It will probably do some other crazy thing.

Remember in the flash back where Eren was walking the streets of Marley thinking about his decisions right before he saved the refugee? There was a couple he walked past and the Woman was Pregnant and just after he watched them, he had an expression on his face... I saw an Edit on IG that was suggesting that The Woman gave birth eventually and They were the Woman and Child at the edge of The Cliff... I didn't confirm it but I just think it's interesting!

The Finale definetly broke me... Such a tragic story for all the characters. May Eren & Mikasa find peace together in the afterlife. What a journey it has been, I can't believe AoT is actually over...

@@НикитаСимонян-ж5еIf Eren goes to hell, everyone will go, everyone is a sinner. For example, Mikasa killed many soldiers and was complicit in the genocide in Liberio, just like Armin who literally crushed thousands of people.

Mikasa - eren is the antithesis of Ymir- Fritz. Fritz treated ymir has s*x slave, never loved her while ymir blindly followed him. The curse started When ymir was dying after getting hit by the spear she was still longing for the King to show love but he didn't and she let herself die. The curse ended when Mikasa chose to stop eren. Eren loved Mikasa unlike king Fritz to ymir and wanted her a good life. Ymir was smiling while looking at Mikasa kissing eren realising they loved each other even till the end which she never had from king fritz and let herself free. Eren created an Alternate cabin life in paths with Mikasa so that he could spend time together with her before dying. The Armin and eren talk in paths happened first and eren Mikasa's life in paths happened later. On Eren's Tomb Mikasa wrote "Here forever, my most beloved, my dear

The biggest change the anime made that improved the ending is the flow of the conversation between Armin and Eren in the Paths. In the manga, Eren throws out the 80% killed stat way earlier, and Armin kind of doesn't hold him to task. Translations also had Armin saying "Thanks for commiting genocide". Putting the 80% line later in the conversation and changing Armin's response to it made the ending way better
