Yes. My dad used this once while we were camping to tighten up has hammock and he fell [like 2ft] the stick went flying like 15ft

Called a Spanish windlass if memory serves. Haven’t used them to tighten fencing wire in 40+ years but worked well.

I can see how it works well with wire, fence wire especially since they keep shape better than rope. All you'd need is a hook on the winding rod so it doesn't pop free as easily.

This is a perfect knot video: application demonstrated and only a few seconds long. This knot works well, but you need be OK with carrying 2 sticks and having that low security ending. Tie this knot only if a Trucker Hitch is not doable, like if the rope is permanently tied at both anchors.

If everyone practiced knots and had a strong understanding of them, it could change the world exponentially! Rescue situations alone but everything from big to small and applying that spacial awareness to many other things. Life isn't about having the right tools or every tool. It's about application. And if you can apply this knowledge to science theory, or rral life safety protocols...it would open many doors. Sounds silly but something I've always thought about and I truly believe.

Enough tension will break those sticks in half, that's why people usually use iron/hardwood bars for these types of rope tricks

Good point. Bamboo is a good material for this. Be sure and lash this rig down to the standing line for safety after you get the tension you want, to avoid the winding bar popping off and releasing the tension on the line with possibly disastrous results.

Nice! Clever. There's a really similar trick exvept using way bigger pieces of wood that can help dislodge a stuck vehicle etc.
