Yeah. I was working at the Fort Carson PX for that Black Friday. They had about 20 Spider-Man PS4 Slim bundles for $190 tax free. Sony does special pricing for AAFES. When the PS5 launched the soldiers only had to pay $470 for the disc model, tax free.

It is true, the N64 library is not the grandest. I've owned the entire library on Console before and I mostly jumped between like the same 10 games. What is promising is that we are starting to get more Homebrew titles for the N64 like Goldeneye X and smash remix which are excellent.

I suspect the Analogue 3D’s 4K support means it will put out a 4K video signal and NOT that the games will render in 4K. Most likely the games will still render in 240/480 resolutions and the 4K output will be used to create highly accurate scanlines and other CRT effects.

It's 2024 materials and parts aren't as expensive anymore, that was from a supply chain issue that's been resolved for awhile, it's not from inflation. These companies are keeping prices high because they can, and that actually makes inflation worse, if the purchasing power of the dollar goes down because of arbitrarily high prices the dollar is worth less.

Believe it or not the some parts of the sh2 remake are actually scarier than the original plus the graphics and sound are outstanding pick it up when you can buy keep in mind it is silent hill so be prepared to have a wacky experience

I'm not picking one of those N64 systems up because I already bought a modded N64 off eBay like 5 years ago, along with an OSSR and an Everdrive 64. I've played it for about 20 minutes total for two reasons: the image quality sucks on a 4k tv when compared to anything I can get through an emulator, and I've realized (just like with NSO games)--retro games are mostly a novelty. Outside of a few classics that hold up well, most retro games are a chore to play and you can only play Ocarina of Time so many times. N64 was my favorite system when I was a teenager--but wooboy, trying to play Goldeneye today is not a good experience. Some things are just better left to rose tinted nostalgia

Even The Medium was good, rating at 70-75. They just needed the budget/funds and overall backing from a big publisher to break out, and they delivered in spades. A lot of the criticisms of Bloober were over the top and completely unfair. Just look at FromSoft. They were just an ok developer before their breakout release with Demons Souls.

Black Friday sucks now because you really are not getting good deals especially electronics which are now stripped down versions made especially for Black Friday events so those LG, Samsung, Sony TV sets are not the same sets you get at the stores at higher prices. No N64 games ran like crap, particularly came from Nintendo, a lot of games that were developed by Rare did run poorly like golden eye and banjo Kazooie but the low frame rate did not affect the gameplay of these game people like you are why I hate modern gaming. You have to have been there at the time to appreciate the N64, which was a great system overall.

There's no way that clone console is "100%" compatible... I've never seen a clone console that can handle Pokemon Stadium with the Transfer Pak, that only ever works on my original N64 and the only emulator that has a transfer pak plugin is project 64 which we can't use anymore because of security exploits.

It’s such a big missed opportunity that the Analogue 3D doesn’t include OpenFPGA as the Pocket did… that would allow playing other systems and would have the potential to become the best consolized FPGA system on the market. Would buy instantly. 220k LE is almost 4x the LE on the Analogue Pocket and double the LE on the DE10-Nano board used for the MisTer FPGA. And $250 is so cheap compared to everything you need for MisTer… this would be a killer product. It would even make its own name have more sense, because why would “3D” only refer to N64? What about PSX, Saturn, etc?

There are now de10 nano clone boards. Full "MiSTer Pi" set ups are around 200 USD and they can play N64. Granted finding a "MiSTer Pi" isn't easy as they are sold out but Analogue being the king of FOMO and best friends scalper means you aren't getting a Analogue 3D at retail price either.

The new N64 system seems like it'd be really cool for someone who's really into playing the original cartridges. I still have an original N64, but I'm more interested in playing the games than seeing the authentic pixels, so I just use emulators and roms pretty much exclusively.

I'd say software emulation is better for 3d systems like the n64 than fpga hardware emulation because of the improvements you can utilize in software emulation better frame rates, higher resolution texture packs etcetera. Those improvements just aren't available on fpga to the same degree so unless anoulog figured out a way to match software emu features I'd say the market is limited for their device.

Arstechnica say they are using a Altera Cyclone FPGA with 220,000 logic elements. Mister users a Cyclone V with 110k LE. So not the same chip because of the LE count. Also the price of the Cyclone V can be under 100 USD as there are a few DE10 clone boards using Cyclone V at or under 100 USD.

While I think the Analogue 3D looks like a high quality machine I personally don’t see any reason not to just stick with my Super64 and original console. The picture quality is good enough on a modern tv. More than anything, though, I just can’t be bothered with Analogue’s terrible business practices. They tap into FOMO with everything they produce to the point that it’s just not worth the hassle. Best of luck to those that want to fight the scalpers with this one.

When you do a comparison between the N64 and the Analogue 3D, it will be fascinating from your perspective on how good the image quality is with this new device. I am curious.

I use a hyperkin brand output for my n64, and I’m happy with it. It was only like $30. I know that with more money and work I could make my N64 look better, but the hyperkin lets me output to hdmi, and playing the actual n64 is more of a gimmick for me now because of having NSO + expansion.
