Hello ASL Heroes!!! Hey, I could really use your help. If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you. A small monthly donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com. Right now you can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!” www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G For more donation options, see: Lifeprint.com/donate Thanks! - Dr. Bill

Oh, so the question "Usually, is a 'wh' question 'brows down'?" would be brows up while making the sign for brows down with both hands, muah ahaha~~

The "Hot Dog Rule" goes like this: "if you have to put so many toppings so that it covers up the taste, you might as well leave out the part that tastes bad in the first place." I think it's also why I gave up coffee long ago~

This video makes me think of a line from the Movie Good Will Hunting, “ do you like apples?” dude nods yes “Well I got her number, how you like those apples?” and it dawned on me, not sure those jokes interpret correctly in ASL.

Some puns based on idioms are funny in part because the idiom is a highly compressed container of meaning. The punch of the punchline is a result of the rapid realization of the meaning and interrelation between the parts of the pun based on the sense of surprise and discovery in the unfolding or unpacking of the meaning of the idiom. It is the act of unfolding, unpacking, and realizing the connections that give us joy in the idiom-based pun. If the same idiom doesn't already exist in the other language there is no unpacking to be done. You have to explain it. There is no punch. It is like one of those peanut brittle cans with a fake compressed snake except the snake was never compressed into the can. It is just handed to you via someone explaining some drawn out concept. There is no sudden realization of clever meaning. So -- "no" such idioms and puns are not funny in a second language.

Laughed at myself - you asked favorite month, I actually thought for a second “what is my favorite banana?” 😂- I was still stuck from the earlier numerous ways to say banana
