An interview with Douglas McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb and Fixmer/McCarthy at Berghain

On September 8th-right outside of the legendary nightclub Berghain in the Cantine area,-Post-Punk.com had the pleasure of interviewing EBM and Industrial music legend Douglas J. McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb and Fixmer/McCarthy.
We discussed with Douglas the Post-Punk influences of Berlin (including The Birthday Party, Einstürzende Neubauten and Malaria!), as well as Techno’s influence on Industrial/EBM and vice versa-plus how he ended up working with Terence Fixmer, and his thoughts on Berghain, and it’s infamous door policy.
We also remembered the late Frank Tovey of Fad Gadget, who would have turned 60 on the day this interview was filmed.

I love listening to you talking, Douglas, fascinating interview and such a nice guy, so grounded and down to earth. Please, get back in touch with Alan (Wilder) and do some more Recoil, I loved your collaborations with him. Also listening to some Nitzer Ebb, but did not know your music until I started listening to Recoil. Very fascinating journey, of Doug McCarthy, and all these musicians. He is so eloquent and such a fascinating person to listen to in interviews (and his music). I am a new fan but I very much like him, highly intelligent and very honest and down to earth - and a great singer. Get Alan on board and do Stalker in your set, Doug, I did love your collaboration on Unsound Methods.
