Cecil Kimber is one of the founding fathers of the British motor industry. Without his ingenuity and attention to the burgeoning desires of the motoring public we would not have had the brand representing engineering advancement in road and racing that MG has been, and hopefully will be again.
I met Joe McGavin quite by accident at the Triumph & MG Centenary event held at Silverstone on the 10th and 11th of June 2023. He was kind enough to allow me to conduct the above interview and I am truly grateful to him for sharing his family history and personal stories here. It was poignant to think that, had it not been for a motorcycle accident and the compensation paid to Cecil Kimber as a result of this, it is certain that the thousands of cars and people who turned out over the weekend at Silverstone would not have been there and would possibly never have met or shared their passion for our motoring heritage as they so clearly did.
Please excuse our flushed appearances, it was 30 degrees that day!
