Man it’s awesome! How many sounds can you make with your Darbuka! What model and brand of instrument is the one you are playing? The sound is astounding! Is there a website where I can buy one like yours? PS did you install a LED light in it?

Dear friend, I wish you all the best in your musical journey!.. But what you are doing is more responsobility in order to give the tuth information to Rhythm Lovers!.. The name of the technique that you mentioned as a "Split hand or Turkish technique" is wrong information.. Turkish technique is "Fiske" technique.. In 1988 Misirli Ahmet created his own unique style, technique and new method for the drum. This ‘modern’ style of playing is often called ‘split finger’ or ‘Turkish technique’ but it is simply the Misirli Ahmet technique. all the best from Misirli Ahmet Rhythm House, Istanbul, Turkey
@bklyn74
@bklyn74 9 жыл бұрын
Fair enough and duly noted. While I knew Misirli Ahmet created this technique I have never heard it referred to as the Misirli Ahmet Technique. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on my video. I'll hope you will find time to watch some of the other videos on my channel! Best, Kevin

Do you have some tip like exercise to make the sound of my left hand a little better? I saw that you go up your elbow when you use left hand, I' ve tried to do that but the sound is not to good yet lol....is that right?
@bklyn74
@bklyn74 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexandre. I do keep my elbow up as it helps to generate more power. My best advice is to keep working on triplets (tek-1-3) and tek-1-3-1 and slowly build up strength.

Hello Kevin. Thanks for the freat video. I just started learning the darbuka and an having a really tough time with ka. I can’t make a clean crisp hard sound like I can with tek. Any tips for developing technique and strength? How long should it take for a beginner to get a good ka?
@bklyn74
@bklyn74 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you are finding the video useful! The ka tone can be very tricky at first. I don't have any great secret for you . .lots and lots of repetition. . .focus on technique, the strength and volume will come with time. Make sure you're really thinking of "swinging" your ring finger across the drum so it strikes the head almost parallel to the rim. Hope that helps! Feel free to shoot me an email if you'd like to do a FaceTime/Skype lesson sometime: kevin@kevinsportmusic.com

Hi, how do you make the ka sound with your left-hand index finger? I cannot make a sound with it.
@bklyn74
@bklyn74 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Zhiqian. The "ka" can be tricky. I think it's mostly a matter of building some strength in your finger. There are several left hand-only exercises I do to help with that. I also kind of think of "throwing" my finger at the head if that makes sense. Also keep your elbow up so you have more leverage. Hope that helps!
@pianolover1986
@pianolover1986 3 жыл бұрын
@@bklyn74 yes, it helps! I also found the feel of "throwing", and I'm glad that this is assured by you:)

Türk tekniği diye bir tanım kabul edilemez. Bütün Türkiye'den perküsyoncular toplanıp bir teknik bulmadılar. Mısıra gidip gece sabaha kadar deneme yapan besteler yapan tekniği bulan Mısırlı ahmet buldu çaldığınız tekniği onun için Mısırlı ahmet tekniği demeniz en doğru olanıdır.

Hello my friend. Take my apologies first. But I want to write something here. First of all, PLEASE do NOT try to teach something that you JUST learned. Second, just try to be a student for a while. Make sure it will help you. Third, choose your way; If you are a LEARNER or a TEACHER ? Don't take me wrong. I don't blame you. Of course you can do whatever you want, and ppl can learn from wherever they want. I really don't care. But before teaching something, PLEASE LEARN IT VERY WELL. Regards, Ilker.
@bklyn74
@bklyn74 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Ilker. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment on this video. I think perhaps you are misunderstanding the point of this video and I encourage you to read the description. I will say that I have never met a musician of any caliber that shares your view that "teacher" and "learner" are somehow mutually exclusive. I would like to invite you to watch some of the many other more performance-oriented videos on my channel. I think you *do* care, which is great. Best, Kevin
