Really nice video, a lot of information. I found a coin yesterday whilst metal detecting, I believe its a Charles the 1st half crown, looks the same as 2667 in the spink book page 293 I think. It's worn where the horse is, and it's clipped. Mine weights 11g.. same as the counterfeit one in this video. How can I tell, apart from the weight, if its a counterfeit? I have found a counterfeit George the 3rd shilling 1816, not far from this coin, but obviously a long time apart. Any help would be appreciated.

Firstly well done on finding the coin 😊 a normal weight is about 14.85g so 11g is way under! 😊

@@TheHammeredCorner Thank you for the reply. I am very pleased with my find. With it being 11g, maybe it is a counterfeit. I will take it to my local detectorists shop next time I go and ask him for his opinion. It looks amazing and I feel privileged to of even touched it..

Hello, my family has a coin similar to the Charles 1st Crown, but it is not dated and we aren't sure what era it is from. One side is a man on a horse (facing right). The other side has a crest in the centre with the full words: prostestemy religious and the liberties of england. No date though. Just interested in getting it identified. Can you help at all? Kind regards Anne M.

Hello there, king facing right with no date will be a half crown from the reign of James I, the obverse legend Obote the horse starting in the 1 o’clock position should read “JACOB” or similar. Let me know 😀

@@TheHammeredCorner Hello, I managed to find out it is actually a King William iii Battle of Boyne medal, via a Facebook group. Very similar to the Charles I coin. Thank you very much for replying. Anne M.

@@TheHammeredCorner According to the people on the facebook group it is this medal. But, I cannot find any other in existence on the internet. So, not entirely sure if it's rare or not. Until I recently bought a number of wonderful silver dirhams, and golden dinars and ashrafis, my oldest coin was Charles I shilling struck at the Tower Mjnt with a crown mintmark, S-2791. It’s pretty worn, but the attribution to Charles I and the mintmark are clearly legible.

I unfortunately don't have any coins of Charles I but your video has encouraged me to add at least a couple to my collection. It does look like a fascinating series. As an American I also find it very interesting that a king could be executed. That sounds like a part of history I would like to learn more about. Can you recommend a good book about that period of English history? Thank you.
@TheHammeredCorner2 жыл бұрын
Awesome to hear you’ll be looking to add one to your collection! A great book on his history is called ‘The white king’. Very cheap and was a fantastic way for me to to learn about his incredibly interesting reign. 😀
