I like that some of these lores have a little bit of overlap, it makes them feel less strictly constructed, and thus more real. Like assisting others in the way of vitality is some parts Light, Life, and Beasts. Heat and Fire have quite a few relations with Heavens, Metal, and Fire (obviously). I'm still learning the Warhammer Lore, but I am loving it so much thus far.

My favorite magic system in all of fantasy(books, movies, games, etc.) is the system from the Inheritance Cycle, or the Eragon series. It's just so in depth, it's explained very well as the series goes on, it makes sense with physics and science, it allows for extreme creativity when imagining it's uses, magic defines the world and how society works, and it still leaves room for mystery and has unexplained elements that will most likely be explained as more books come out.

The WarHammer fantasy has more inline with the Elder Scrolls on how magic, works, one uses the Winds of Magic via the two poles of the planet, while another uses the position of the Stars & the Sun to determine who can use magic, some one born under a certain constellation gains the ability to use magic, but even so there are certain spell that cannot be used by people for various reasons, that being said in the older lore parts one born in to the harmony under the constellations such as The Apprentice, The Mage & The Atronach being attributed to Julianos & Magnus, so those born under those stars are better adapted for multiple forms of spells, The Lady is representation to Mara, goddess of love, family , healing or Arkay the god of birth, life, death & buriel, The Lover is an odd to Dibella, who is based around Aphrodite, her traits benefit either illusions or more "provocateur"enchantment, The Thief, the Shadow ,The Serpent & the Tower are those that gain benefits to the art of illusions, The Warrior & is defender of the constellations it also one of first , oldest & principle main ones related to Akatosh, chieftain of the Gods, while the Lord is to Stendarr, Kynareth is tied to the Steed. In the D&D universe, arcane magic, the base line of the magical arts, is something some one either trains his mind or is inherently born with such in the case of sorcerers of wizards, while divine magic draws power from there respective gods.

From what I understand magic is more than a mere tool...its a sort of mystical collaboration, ever time you reach into magic you drawing out more than just "energy" you drawing on ideas, emotions, and so on from the collective psyche of well...everyone. That's bound to have some significant influence on the caster like having to listen to a bunch of people ideas, hopes, dreams almost constantly which could become quite grating on one's mind to say the least.

Somebody is bound to have brought this up in 6 years but sharpening for lore of metal could easily just be the magic realigning the metal into what would be a sharpened state rather than affecting the composition of the item in a traditional physical sharpening. If you can transmute different metals making the metal take a shape shouldn't be too difficult.

Also real world magical traditions are not illogical or without rulez its just different chains of logic that to us would seem unproductive or irrational, but has clear intended effects. The whole ironic price or potential dangers of using magic comes from the caster' s hubris. Like in many stories around our world those who use magic must take care not to let their arrogance take hold least their conjured "gaint serpent pet" turns on them...just some thoughts I wanted to share.

I seem to remember something about humans being corrupted by their chosen school of magic. That the reason why Bright Wizards all have red hair is because of their exposure to the winds of fire, and so on. Was this ever real? Or was I misinformed as a child?

I don't know about fire and shadow magic having no civilian uses I would think there's a lot of ways they could come in useful. Fire magic could be used in metal work old style field cleansing, slash and burn deforestation and if the empire ever got their hands on dwalvish steam powered technologies or the dwarfs hired out a different races mages it would make a very good power source for all kinds of steam powered technologies. After all there was more than just trains that were powered by steam which would be useful, you have pumps, mining carts and air circulation for mining, power for factories if they ever industrialised and steam ships for trading which would also demand a larger dwalf navy to protect the interests of the trading vessels. If the world hadn't ended and technology progressed then fire mages could also be a great no fuel required zero pollution toxic green house radioactive or otherwise and on demand. Shadow magic might be able to help with mental illness and act as anaesthetic, while this is kind of beast magic I could also see it as helping to train difficult and dangerous animals. A little unethical but you could use it to reform criminals to.

Thinking about symbolism and magic makes me wonder...could the lore of fire with all of the symbolism and ideas that fire indodies be used for carnal pursuits. Say a bright wizard makes a living by creating magical aids (with a bite of alchemy) to a man's vigor in the bed room becuase of the passion that is associated with fire...

Lore of Nehekhara exclusive to Tomb Kings. Lore of the Wild for Beastmen. There are also the non-GW factions and their the magic lores derivative from the main schools = Lore of Sands - Araby, Lore of Myrmida - Estalia, Lore of Kami for Nippon, etc. Granted for someone like you who is strict to "GW only" stuff this is most likely non interesting. Same as you scoffed at Chaos dwarves rules from Forge World (who are by all means and purposes Cannon by this point as FW has been merged into GW quite a few years ago legally and officially). 21:00 Actually, it could work in that way where the metal just "disappears" (more likely just falls off the blade to the ground). If you can use psychic energy to reshape lead into gold, having that same force sheer a microscopic plane on the very edge bevel of a sword/knife isn't that ridiculous in comparison. It'd be just like it was cut or sheered off of the very edge of the blade, and that would make it pretty damn sharp if done correctly.

It's possible that the whole scalely skin thing is entirely symbolic, a lot of magic requires thinking not in literal terms but in symbolic ones. (Example below) soldier 1: "Taal's teeth!! These lizard folk sure have some tough hides!" Soldier 2: "yeah it's almost like it we're chain mail!" You get the idea if enough people comment and believe that the lizardmens scale are liken to mail armor then naturally the lore of metal will hold (a tenuous) domain however limited over their scalely hides. Thought that might be an interesting way of looking at it becuase again with magic you can't always be too literally else the magic is gone. Like the whole transmuting of lead into gold it works because of the sybomlism behind it turning something "inferior" into something "pristine" (an alchemical hierachy of nature) it's a timeless concept, inbeaded deep into the collective psyche of popular belief and media.

Why would you have to remove the metal to sharpen the blade? You could just draw the existing metal out further into a thinner edge just be redistributing the molecules.

Technically not, the matrix of the metal won't really be able to hold an edge if you do that and if you instead move the different parts of stuff that makes the edge sharp and stay sharp you'd end up with an overall weaker weapon, edge metallurgy is some interesting stuff.

Si Wi Um, Priests cast spells just like Wizards/Mages. It's just that Mages' magic tends to be more free-form while Priest's magic tends to come with pre-packaged effects.

Well irl we can and in fact do transmute elements, its not that unlikely that if you have a smoke detector in your home it has an americium radiation source, and 100% of all americium is man made.... ...similarly to plutonium in nuclear warheads...etc. However it takes LOT of work to transmute elements, so if you can mine it you tend to go with that option 1 hence no gold production this way.

Not really, since firstly, the person resurrected still has his identity and free will and secondly once he is resurrected there's no need to use any magical energy to keep him alive like how is required by necromancy. To simplify it all, while Regrowth is a full on restoration to life, Raise dead is essentially controlling corpses like puppets.

As far as the lore of metal and sharpening a blade. What's stopping them from just rearranging the metal, so that no mass is lost at all but the blade is "shaped" into a sharper state?

Patrick Buckley edge metalurgy is an interessting thing, but short answer is that it is more effective to sharpen the edge via cutting instead of bending the metal.

Hey there. I have been Warhammer fan since the first 40k down of war came out, but I like just Warhammer more. With that said, are there any novels, not codexes, but novels, akin to example to the Warcraft ones and if so, which one would recommend for someone just starting (though i enjoy the franchise, i am a filthy casual)

I know it's super late to comment but...im gonna have to disagree with the whole "predicting the weather thing as trivial" more often than not the fate of whole civilizations throughout history was based on weather it's going to rain or not i.e. crops. Without that or some other form of irrigation there is no food, no food means no civilization. Even today we like to think were the masters of nature and yet we're just as helpless angaist the forces of nature today as in times past. The difference today is we have more advanced warning and can better prepare accordingly. Sure battles are important but it pales in comparisons to "just little rain..."
