An introduction to open pit mine dewatering.
Geoff Beale is Piteau Associates Global Advisor: Dewatering, and has worked for 41 years in surface and groundwater control for the minerals industry. He has worked in over 60 countries worldwide, in all major industrial commodities, and in all climatic zones. Geoff is most noted for his global knowledge of open pit and underground mine dewatering projects, and has been involved with many of the world’s largest mining operations. He has broad experience in the operational and environmental aspects of leach pads, wasterock facilities and tailing systems, and has played a lead role in the design and monitoring of closure programs for several mine sites. Geoff is theco-editor (with John Read) of the recently published CSIRO Guidelinesfor Evaluating Water in Pit Slope Stability, has written the water management chapters for the CSIRO Guidelines for Open Pit Slope Design, Guidelines for Open Pit Slope Design in Weak Rocks, and Guidelines for Mine Waste Dump and Stockpile Design (co-edited by Piteau CEO MarkHawley), tailings facilities (Elsevier publications) and gold processing(Elsevier publications).
