If we don't stand for are faith, and understand the apologetics necessary to reach people then we will be a failure. There have been debates in history that could have changed things for the worse, but godly men stood up for the faith. That's why we dont believe arianism today. Because someone fought for the doctrine of the trinity during the Council of Nicea, and others fought for the other important doctrines as well when the church slipped. If someone doesn't stand for what is right we will become corrupted. I've witnessed on the street with Muslims. apologetics, and understanding gose a long way. But also if you don't understand your own stuff the conversation could switch, and you could be swayed to be a Muslim, because your not equipped. How can you reach people in a belief system, and culture you don't know? Even Paul used the people's beliefs of God's to his advantage, and also their poets writings.

I can totally appreciate your sentiment. However, debates are a way we can weigh the evidence and learn to strengthen the defense of our faith. Peter 3:15, “always be ready to give a defense of the faith that is in you.” Debates also plant seeds in those who both watch them and participate in them. I can lead to soul winning. IMO If the word of God is being discussed then the Kingdom is being propagated!

The imam asked, “Why wouldn’t Jesus choose to reveal Himself now and make it more clear?” In scripture Jesus said this to the Pharisees: “You have seen the signs and you still don’t believe.” Doesn’t matter if people saw a camera shot of Jesus’ resurrection. There would still be doubt and always an excuse. “Oh that was just camera affects.” The truth is if you want to doubt you’ll doubt no matter what you see.

@Joel P @Joel P I think your claim is not exactly valid, indeed there are more equipments and technologies to make things seem more reasonable today, but none can be proven 100% and there are even more lies around than truth when medias are controlling what we received. Today, you can see the smartest person on earth claimed that something to be true, eveyone believed him, but on the next day he was exposed he said that only because it benefit him. In exodus, the first generation saw all kind of miracles from god, and yet none of them had gotten into Canaan because of their lack of faith. And we all knows seeing something like the ocean split apart is more amazed for the people on that day than today. It's abour the relationship, love, faith and whether you can really humble yourself down to actually believe in Him. Some people they can try to act smart, and seems like it, or actually be one, but those are the people who actually never get a chance to understand the truth, they just want to feel good about themselves.

the muslim guy never listened to the christian guy's explanations and not once did he ever let him finish, but rather kept interrupting (at the same time doesn't like getting interrupted himself) and rewording the same questions over and over.. as a not so religious christian who has little interest to go and listen to a priest's sermon, i'm actually interested in the christian guy's line of thinking and his explanations. this was so frustrating and painful to watch.

Great discussion, both men are incredibly intelligent, and the Imam brought up some good points that I feel Dr. James answered incredibly well. I was born and raised as a Christian, and I ultimately believe that the truth can be found through the word of Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, I love all of you, my fellow human beings, beings of the almighty Lord, whom I love and fear the most. I hope for more friendly theological discussions like this. I see a lot of people in the comment-section disregarding each others faiths, we should not do that. Yes I have this issue. I am afraid I will forget my response so I cannot pay as much attention to what is being said as I should. This is why I dislike gatherings where you are forced to speak because then all I will think about is what I am going to say & not listen carefully to others. @@surreal2958 If the interruption of the Imam was to remind James to stay on topic, the Imam would be returning to the same question. This would have held James to account, forcing James to answer the questions properly. But alas, the Imam is the one asking many different questions and changing topics. I think the reason the Imam doesn't return to his original questions is because he felt was answered adequately by James. This is why the debate was distasteful to me, the Imam didn't want to actually debate the points, but rather to "out-talk" his opponent. I reckon the Imam felt threatened, and his instinctive defence was to constantly change topics in order to catch James out by latching onto maybe 1 thing that James doesn't answer well. It's a beggar's strategy really. Apart from that, I liked the respect between the two! But that was just my analysis of what was happening :)

In 1 John, no man has seen God at any time; even Jesus’ own statement in John 5 and 37 -Jesus says: and the Father Himself which has sent me has borne witness of me and you have neither heard his voice or seen his face at any time and Jesus was standing right there amongst them and Jesus claimed that God’s knowledge was greater than his!!!

I don’t know man. Every time I see one of these debates there is nothing about the Muslim scholars that fulfills me or excites me. I’m a Christian , so I may be biased , but I swear , trying to be as objective as I can be , the Christian scholars throughout all the debates I’ve witnessed were well researched and backed up their arguments not only on passages from the Bible , but the Qu’ran as well , whereas the Muslim scholars just recycled the same cliche arguments about the many versions of the Bible and so on so forth. Love the graciousness and respect that these two scholars extend to each other. As a Christian, I think Christ would have it no other way. And quite honestly, I had to laugh to myself when James was questioned about all the different versions of the Bible and all the different denominations of Christianity. All these differences is why Christ kept telling his disciples to remain as one and be of one mind. I think now, in 2021, more than ever, Christians really need to lay their differences aside and strive for unity. You can live like Jesus all day and be a “good person” but that’s not what makes you right with God. It is by grace you are saved through faith apart from works. The only way to be right with God is through His Son’s work on the cross. There is no amount of good works you can do. We all fall short of His standards. Now don’t get me wrong, if your faith doesn’t show your life transformed something is off. You must believe only in the One He sent. All religions don’t lead to God just as all roads don’t lead to New York. Jesus said He was the Only way to the Father. The religious leaders were like that during biblical times. They obeyed God with their actions but their heart were far from Him.

I am disappointed with this debate because Dr. James White is knowledgeable of both the Quran and Bible; however the Imam has a superficial understanding of Christianity, and he even admitted to not knowing much of the gospel. The Imam kept mentioning his weak arguments of the various books included and not included, the different versions of the Bible, and denominations. The debate and dialogue would of been better if there was an Imam who actually read and studied the Bible like Dr. White who has read and studied the Quran. It is unfortunate that there are denominations in Christianity, but he is not being fair to both sides since Islam also has denominations. Overtime, there has been different versions and translations of the Bible (for instance Old English to new, from Greek to English, and what should be included vs what should not be included). Overall, another Imam with a better understanding of Christianity would of carried this debate further.

Which bible? Bibles are collection of books written by anonymous Greek and Roman pagan who never met Jesus. Jesus was neither a Greek nor spoke Greek. He spoke and preached his messages to his disciples in Aramaic language. There is absolutely no gospel of Jesus in Aramaic ever found not even potion. So we can’t take bibles by Greek and Roman pagan as authentic messages of Jesus . There are intentional or unintentional corruption including personal understanding of gospel writers included in bibles.

Oops whether weak arguments or superficial or not Dr. James still couldn't answer them clearly. They both have some knowledge about the book lol. Dr. White isn't a scholar in the Quran and neither Imam said he is an expert in the bible. The questions he asked were basic. The Imam was knowledgeable enough but most of the time unfortunately even the basic questions about the bible can't get answered by Christians. Just because you studied and read the Quran once doesn't make you an expert on the Quran or on Dr. White's part. He is going to mention the various versions of the bible since it is confusing. Even to a child, it would be confusing. I would also like a Christian expert to clearly answer basic questions. To most 1+1+1 is not 1.

What Jesus peace be up him says (follow The Ten Commandments) and what Paul says completely contradict each other. It is impossible to follow both. Similar is true to Sahih Bukhari. What Bukhari says (by the name of Hadith, or prophet speech) is just his opinion and some trash talk of the people and completely contradict with the Quran.

Simply put, the Christian doctrine of the Trinity states that God is the union of three divine persons - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit - in one divine being. Is this English or is this gibberish? It is said that Athanasius, the bishop who formulated this doctrine, confessed that the more he wrote on the matter, the less capable he was of clearly expressing his thoughts regarding it. How did such a confusing doctrine get its start?

Side down Up references in the Bible to a Trinity of divine beings are vague, at best. In Matthew 28:19, we find Jesus telling his disciples to go out and preach to all nations. While this ‘Great Commission’ does make mention of the three persons who later become components of the Trinity, the phrase ‘…baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost’ is quite clearly an addition to Biblical text - that is, not the actual words of Jesus - as can be seen by two factors: baptism in the early Church, as discussed by Paul in his letters, was done only in the name of Jesus; and the ‘Great Commission’ was found in the first gospel written, that of Mark, bears no mention of Father, Son and/or Holy Ghost - see Mark 16:15.

Probably my biggest problem with religion is that God has left us humans with so much confusion. As another said why doesn't he clear up this confusion and send us an unedited complete and accurate new book containing the true word of God.

@@dillonallison5744 Joseph Smith and Muhammed claimed to have done this, although if you look at the research of Jay Smith and other scholars the Quran has also fallen off. The main problem though is that somehow we keep demanding that God clear up this and do that, as if we know God better than He does! Simplification of the message often dilutes the beauty and the strength in our faith. Wrestling with the idea of the trinity or of suffering, humbleness is part of a Godly life. Just like it was part of Jacob's, who encountered God in the flesh and wrestled with Him all night.

He faced temptation as a man does, faced pain as a man does, but after the resurrection he had defeated everything man is. He experienced human life at its fullest, he came down to experience a man but also as god, he and god aren’t separated but one which is stated very clear, the holy spirit is like a peace of god that descends into man to communicate with god and Jesus Thats the holy trinity. We are connected through the holy spirit to god only if you receive it through Christ. Know Christ you know the father. Its in plain sight. The New Testament isn’t supposed to be complicated, you’re over analyzing. If you stick to your beliefs thats ok im only here to share my views I hope I didn’t cause any disruption

This is why God spoke from heaven to declare “this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased” so that all mankind would know Jesus is the Son of God. We would not have to guess. Even Jesus said, “even if you do not believe on me at least believe on the works that I do.” There is no question that Jesus went about healing the sick, raising the dead, casting out demons, & FORGIVING SINS. This is well documented EVEN BY HIS ENEMIES. In fact this was the EVIDENCE from Jesus’s ENEMIES that He should be crucified. BECAUSE Jesus healed the sick & forgave sins ON THE SABBATH. So even the enemies of Jesus declare He is the Son of God by accusing Him of healing the sick & forgiving sins on the Sabbath.
