Karan Soriba, along with his brother Karan Mahame, were exemplars among the Karambaya branch of the larger Diaby family of the Jakhanke clan. The two were the surviving sons of Karan Sankoun Toubanding, an erudite scholar who sojourned from his native Futa Touba to settle in Nianin in Gambia. His legacy would be realized by his two sons who settled in the village of Massemby in the early 1950s, after nearly two decades across Gambia. They established a foundation of knowledge that continues until this day. Famous for his grasp of nahw (grammar) and his zuhud (asceticism), Karan Soriba passed away in 1963 at the home of Sidi Lamin Kunta in Njassan in Senegal.
May Allah be pleased with him and his brother Karan Mahame, their siblings and their fathers and mothers.
