I've been struggling a lot with countering slow loops and I got roasted in this video by my coach, former Chinese National Team member and 1996 Olympian, Amy Feng. I hope you guys can learn from my mistakes and check out the rest of my videos for more table tennis content.

Dude that's not even her good loop it's her slow spinny loop 😭 The fast one is nuts

This is a good coach, I think she's trying to teach you things she thinks you can handle. That being said, you totally can counter-loop a slow loop not off the bounce, that's a perfectly legitimate shot. She basically was just teaching you how to active block a spinny-ball towards the end, which is great, but please do know there are other options, including the one you suggested at the beginning! Also for your push, you need to relax your grip on you thumb and forefinger, so you can add wrist action to the push, which will make it much heavier. The way your push is now, it's going to be limited in how heavy you can chop it b/c you don't use your wrist at all. Apologies for the unsolicited advice.

Awesome 🙌 thanks for sharing this gold. My coach gave me one more tips… while returning the loop with block (backhand), add a tiny spring bounce in both the knees… that increases the return speed multifold… don’t know how, but it works for me.

Heavy push always gotta be right off the bounce. I learned that in my brief stent of trying to learn jpen. There's a great Ryu Seung Min video where he talks about that. The longer its away from the bounce the more spin is lost, so if you get it right off the bounce you retain that spin. Also the best way to understand the slow loop counter is another penholder, Ma Lin. Again, you want to retain the spin. His counters are so powerful without much effort because he stays close and just puts all the power from the spin in the loop right back into the ball.

Nice video! I struggle with similar things so this is good for me to watch. I think one thing i noticed is you step really good in with your right leg on the push, but then you pause for a second before stepping out with the right leg. I think if you can be quicker pushing off after you push it will give you a lot more time for the counter, my coach tells me I have the same problem 😂

Amy says just keep the knees slightly bent and focus mostly on the ankles. If you need to get lower, you can spread your feet wider, but bending your knees too much makes you move slow. 🏓 Thanks for the comment it helps the channel a lot 🙏🏻😎
