An Overview of Scan to 3D in SOLIDWORKS

2:21 from the very beginnig I've got a problem: no Scan to 3D add-in in the list but I have the folder Scan to 3D in Solidworks folder ?

You might need to reinstall Solidworks and make sure you install this add-in. I believe you need to have the premium package.

when i import any STL file the options under the Scan To 3D arent visible? How should i proceed?

I had this problem too, and even tho it's been 5 years, I still think posting this answer here could be useful: BEFORE you open your .stl you NEED to go to the top gear and go to add-ins and turn on ScanTo3D. THEN you have to go to Open file and under file types select "Mesh Files". Only then does it know that you want your .stl to be a Mesh and not the insanely confusing Graphic Mesh.

Thanks for posting. Never knew that i could open those file types in Solidworks!! Aside from Geomagic wrap, what would be a one touch reverse engineering tool?

Hi Keith, To be honest, I am not sure of any other one-touch reverses engineering tools aside from www.rapidform.com/products/xor/overview/ (Geomagic) which would work well with SOLIDWORKS. Let me know if you need anymore assistance!

Is there a tutorial on how to fill in the deleted surfaces? I am having trouble doing this because insert plane requires the planes to be planner...

Hi Spinner, Unfortunately we have no videos that specifically show off how to do this. However, usually when you use the feature Delete Face, you can try to select one of the Fill or Patch options. Another feature you can try to use is Fill Surface where you select the edges of the boundary and it tries to fill.

Hi Kees, The mesh files are going to be based off a 3D scan from a 3D scanner. That 3D scanner would be able to output the mesh file type. Let us know if you need anymore help!
