This is a really cool mine. The old ones have a vibe all their own and this one sure has it. Winding passages, Strange formations and side tunnels and the appearance that the miners did not remove any rock they did not have to. That is why some prospects along the main tunnel are so narrow. The must have done a lot of the work by hand. Very cool mine. If a mine is to be haunted this one take the cake!

With such a big air flow does that mean there's a end hole passing it through?

Airflow is the best when you explore mines. No airflow and still water are the worst signs you can encounter in the mine. Airflow means clean air and good ventilation. No airflow means bad air, bad ventilation and that means dangerous gases can get stuck in the mine.

That's why you often see survey markers in these mines as the mining companies are poking around to assess the viability of resurrecting an old mine. Given how well everything is preserved underground in the dry mines, some of the stuff that looks brand new is decades old...

It depends on how sketchy the miners thought the ground was. Timbering mines is a lot of work and it is expensive. So, if the miners think the ground is stable enough, they will not bother. TVR- I have to ask this question, it just begging. How often do you guys run into your little "Rattle Buddies" when you're out there tromping around? I've only seen you mention it once. Just Curious. -Shane McGuire

Maybe once or twice a year... I've never had any problem with them and have never had any of them be remotely aggressive. I just let them move out of the way and then carry on.

@@TVRExploring- Yes, i thought so. And... you added something very important to understand about Rattlesnakes. I used to do some volunteer work for Butte County Wild Animal Recovery. Rattlesnakes are very docile. They will acknowledge your presence with their defensive warning, but if you give them a chance to get out of your way, they will. They would rather use their venom load on prey, not for defense. So, that said, unless you corner one, or step on one, they will happily vacate the area until you are long gone. For the new explorers, please don't kill them. They are one of the many ecological solutions to rodent control...
