Project Veritas has released undercover video of former University of Florida athletes discussing the history of physical and mental abuse they experienced at the discretion of Urban Meyer, the now-embattled head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The videos were filmed in separate meetings throughout late 2017 and 2018 across the country, and feature four players that played at various times during Urban Meyer's tenure as head coach of the Florida Gators.

Urban Meyer certainly appears to be a person who could only coach through threatening players. His character and integrity, okay... actually The Lack of Character and Integrity, were shown during his brief NFL days. Yet, networks have the willingness to hire a despicable person like this. I LOVE how clear Dan Orlovsky is in his view of Urban Meyer.

Bad stuff, but I saw equally bad stuff in Texas high school football when I played. Coach got criticized for being soft on us after a bad season so they had us do updowns for about an hour an a half. 13 of us tore muscles in our backs and arms. I tore both triceps and my arms filled up with blood. Took me a year to recover. One of the guys had a broken wrist and a cast and when he couldn't keep up, they punished him by making him do air raids which consisted of sprinting down the field and when they blew the whistle he had to dive to the ground and get up and keep running. He broke his cast and re-broke his wrist. It's one thing to work people hard and it's another to abuse them. After 3 years of playing, I got a bad knee injury 2 weeks before the season started, it was a lawnmower accident, I cut the tendon on my knee and metal parts went into my kneecap. I still suited up and limped back onto the field. I told the coaches about the injury but they looked down and said, "Looks like a little cut, so you gonna quit then?" Three years I gave to that program and they didn't care at all. They didn't get me checked out and let me play anyway. Stitches tore out, got a couple infections, all the while they yelled at me for being weak. Looking back, I wouldn't have put up with that for a second, but when you're a kid, you don't want to look weak so you'd destroy your body just to make these guys happy. At some point it stops being a game and turns into someone's sick fantasy. I'm not at all surprised by this info, I doubt it would suprise many people who have played sports.

I am a football mom, and huge high school football fan in general. My son was a very talented player, with the confidence, and skill, to carry out his dream of playing d1 at the next level. After playing for his HS football coach this all changed mentally, although he was still a top all stater and d1 recruit. He had no interest in playing by this time. His coach would humiliate him in front of his team, and do it continually. As the sophmore QB in a rivalry which we lost in the last second, after he played an absolutely great second half bring us back from a 17 point deficit, his coach approached him on the field at the end of the game and told him he was the reason they lost the game. He constantly threatened to bench him just to mess with his head. It got so bad that before the season, during 2 a day time, he had humiliated him so bad in the locker room that he finally spoke up and told him he was nuts. The whole team, who were post season favorites, and loaded with talent, threatened that if he walked out, they would all walk out and quit. Of course this would have cost him his job since the community were in love with these boys. I sympathize with your story. These coaches forget that they are to be a positive influence in these boys life first, and put their egos aside. For those who have great leaders as coaches, be thankful for them. But of course I'm one of those crazy football moms.

What’s the big deal? Players doing workouts to failure? This happens at every major college in many sports. This stuff has gone on for decades. Much worse goes on. Especially coaches covering for players’ criminal activity including rape. People complain about this behavior but yet Americans pay hundreds of millions of dollars every year to watch a bunch of men play with a ball. Think about that. All of this over men playing with a damn ball. The fans and donors demand winning. If you want this behavior to stop how about you stop treating a damn game like it’s the most important thing in the world. I’m talking specifically to the men out there. Try turning off ESPN for awhile and go do something meaningful with your life.

I've had employers who did ALL of these things, and then some to myself or to other people. Also worked at Worker's Comp as a court reporter, and saw that it was "normal" for people to be abused and manipulated - they'd be seriously hurt on the job and the employer would gaslight them, or simply turn everything over to lawyers who specialized in getting rid of "dead wood" - they'd have doctors & nurses on their payroll, and co working spies /"key people" who would say anything the employer wanted. Some employers tormented people just for fun. Bullying, harassment and even stealing from employees & physical abuse is VERY wide spread. The majority of employers I had over 35 years were downright rotten horrible people.

This happens in high school too. Especially the hazing and teasing by players and coaches. I tore my toe and heel tendon my sophomore year and was constantly told i was faking it and needed to suck it up. But when I would push myself to try and do some of the drills, that was used a evidence that it couldn't be that serious if i was even capable of attempting to run on the foot that was injured.

That same teammate informed our trainer when we arrived back to the school after the time which at that the trainer knew something some badly wrong and called for an ambulance. But...does the state of alabama own the trademark rights for "Crimson Tide?" The university is state funded, but the athletic department (specifically at these large football factories) is entirely self funded. Your services are worth what the free market says they are worth. For the success some of these coaches bring universities and the hundreds of millions of dollars they are helping to bring in, some of them should probably be paid even more. The free market dictates their worth, not personal opinions.

No one's perfect. We need to be tough, and strive to be the best we can be. The best athletes know this, and success in every discipline is found by applying this principle, including coaching. Good coaches understand they coach other human beings, in all of their imperfection, striving to be the best. Winning is important, but trading it at the cost of another's humanity ultimately comes at the loss of one's own.

These athletes had their confessions exposed without consent. As troubling as that sounds, their confessions might very well save another's life and the conditions of all players. The players need to know that they can speak out.

I love Project Veritas, but this just seems like a coach that uses the "boot camp" approach to toughen up his team. I don't see the big deal. Maybe the reason Urban is valued so high is because his tactics work. Before the age of everyone being a victim, no one would complain about this kind of stuff.

And another thing regarding Gideon Ajagbe's account: I GUARANTEE he didn't make a huge deal about his injury until it was almost too late; also Meyer has been in the game for years. He knows how far some players will go to fake an injury. Even by Ajagbe's account, once Meyer was convinced, he was fine with Ajagbe getting taken care of.

I realize that swimming is a totally different sport, but coaching doesn't need to be this way. I grew up as the best friend of the son of George Haines (think-"THE best US Olympic swim coach ever"). When he would see athletes suffering from overtraining injuries he would get pissed off at the abuse of the athletes. There is a way to train athletes to get the best and there are ways to destroy athletes to get minimal gains beyond that.

I could not agree with you more. Unfortunately he will simply be fired, the university will pay out the rest of his contract, and no one will do much about this. I hope the Attorney General will investigate the allegations and bring charges against him. Even if they do not convict him, it would send a strong signal that this type of behavior will not be tolerated. I am sure this type of behavior goes on all over division 1 sports. A clear message needs to be sent. God bless the mothers and father who must feel horrible that they put their trust in this monster.
