My spanish father, who was a flamenco guitarist used to play this, for almost all of my life. He died two years ago, at the age of 86. I avoided listening to it, for a very long time. Because I knew my heart would be filled with so much joy and so much sadness at the same time. Those feeling are hard to cope with. Anyway, I'm glad I did today.

The piece is inspired by the Alhambra, an originally Arab city in present-day Spain. As is customary in Arab buildings, there is running water and the tremolo evokes the course of the water in one of the fountains of the Alhambra. There’s no piano involved whatsoever.

The song is actually really simplistic lol. In the bass just the typical arpeggiated chords and the trill / high melody is just a nice little slow melody, very few notes just with that tremolo effect. I do agree, it is quite delightful music

She plays the last chord perfectly and gently in accordance with the overall feel of the piece. So many other guitarists incongruously slam the last chord like a bottle of beer at a drinking contest.
@frankmalone2091
@frankmalone2091 4 жыл бұрын
There is no such law that all chords should match the overall feel. But it's true that many guitarists do senseless things like banging out the last chord even though, being usually the home key, it is what you expect the piece to end on. So it's not something unexpected and significant to emphasize.

I confess I've enjoyed the loud finish I've heard in other renditions. It seems to invoke a naive, raw, unsophisticated but joyous spirit as one might imagine could be associated with the beautiful scenery of Andalusia (no I'm not fancy but I was very lucky to visit the Alhambra once). This is the first one I've heard with the more expected ending, and I like it very much.

I heard her play this live about 10 - 12 years ago. Recordings don't do her justice, because her use of dynamics -- loud & soft contrasts -- is much more striking when one hears it live. Also, I like her fingering/choice of strings in the opening phrases. It's not the usual one, & I prefer hers because it is more smooth & flowing. And the 2-finger tremolo -- it seems more natural than the 3-finger. I think it might work better for many people if they practiced it from the start. (It might have for me, but it is far too late...).

The three finger tremolo is hard to make the tremolo even. I kept hearing the tremolo coming in set of three instead of an even flow, even when a professional plays. I imagine it would be more natural to do tremolo in set of 2 or 4 notes, but of course using 4 fingers is impractical.

Ana Vidovic es espectacular debido a que su guitarra suena hermosa interpretando esta tremenda composición de Francisco Tarrega traspasando el sentimiento hasta el alma del auditor. Excelente entrega de su trabajo.

The most heavenly gorgeous and best rendition of Recuerdos. Ana V. plays it so effortlessly. Francisco Tarrega is a guitar genius/Giulio Tampalini a must have. ( 2019/20 )

To all the critics who hear out of tune strings or imperfect rubato's or whatever other perceived defect you fancy you see/hear with this Maestra's playing of anything try this on for size. This is an artist. Do you understand what an artist is? An artist interprets, defines, sends her art through her being. If you are a purist and require exact duplication of score material, I suggest you design some sort of AI machine to play for you. Ana is superb She is the pinnacle of her instrument mastery.

Infatti! Probabilmente è gente che suona meglio di lei, chissà... il fatto è che secondo me questa è la più bella versione di Recuerdos de la Alhambra che giri su youtube. Persino migliore (e di tanto) di quella di Narciso Yepes.

The "economy" of left hand fingers positioning is so clever. Look how at 0:22 to 0:23 how she moves from the C7 pattern, up to d in 2nd string and pressing f on 1st string 1st fret with the low part of her index, succeeding in a flowing change!!

Brava! This is one of my favorite renditions of this on KZbin. From the very first measure she adds intuitive pauses and emotion to the piece instead of just a mechanical rendition of notes. I can feel this piece in my heart-- which is surely how the composer intended it. I like that she uses two fingers for tremolo (PIMI instead of PIMA)... which is unusual and refreshing to see (I learned that method in a college course and it works well). Not many pieces can actually bring tears to my eyes... but this one has more than once. Absolutely beautiful, Ana.
