Pro tip... in caves and really dark places, you have an option to throw your torch on the ground. It gives a good temporary lighting source while you fight off creepy crawlers. Then just pick your torch back up. Hope this helps. Good luck on the adventures. Love the adventuring in this game. Also... decorating your base all builds up your comfort level, increasing your rested buff time. Rested buff helps a lot with combat and endurance.
