Anaerobic digestion plant overview

Our anaerobic digestion plant, based at our Cramlington, UK facility was built in support of the site's existing waste treatment facility, which has been operating for over 30 years. The plant allows Sterling to produce energy from waste, rather than disposing of it, by using anaerobic bacteria to break down the organic waste into biogas. This is then cleaned and injected into the National Gas Grid as a green energy source.

Retired from an early (built 1950) style of anaerobic municipal sewage facility, San Francisco bay area. Early style not much oriented around gas capture and utilizing. Then, gases were allowed to release into atmosphere, burnt off. Now they're making better use of the methane. The old system was about 35% methane, the other was mostly CO2. Seems like the CO2 could be used for high lipid and O2 production by adding an algae operation along side.. Anyway, absolutely fascinating career. -Loved working there.
