@@MrRaxicorniopholus See, I would agree with that statement, but there are so many problems that make the Tragedy of Dath Vader watered down and weak. Primarily it has to do with the acting and line delivery and part of it is a weak script that failed to endear us properly to the characters. Note, I speak exclusively about the movies, for I have watched The Clone Wars series which was helpful in setting more properly the story and background of the characters in the movies. It's just a shame that it took a cartoon to accomplish what a professionally directed, heavily funded Lucas Arts Studios + ILM trilogy completely failed to. The relationship between Padme and Anakin, when he was a kid, was okay and believable. But during the second and third movie, it felt like Padme was hardly ever there more than to be Anakin's dirty secret. It's a forbidden love story, sure, we get it. But it's not worth it unless we see the love forming. One easy but exceptionally powerful way to make characters feel closer and more alive to an audience is to have them share an ultimate emotion with each other. Bare to all who witness the true soul hidden beneath the socially constructed exterior worn to blend in with the masses. They got close in the movies with the line "They were ANIMALS! And I slaughtered them like Animals!" The problem with scene though was that they didn't allot time to let the true range of emotions set in before they cut away. Take that same scene with Anakin shouting at Padme a confession of his brutality, then make this edit: After Anakin shouts those words, he looks horrified at himself and what he said. He looks like he's about to turn inside out and the world is falling away from underneath him. Padme closes the distance and takes the suffering Anakin into her arms. He begins sobbing uncontrollable out of confusion and terror from the turmoil boiling within him. With broken voice of regret, hatred and agony, he can barely bawl out the words "What have I done?" Show him turning his face into her chest to pule and them both fall slowly to the ground with Padme stroking and holding him. Then pull the camera away slowly. Give the scene about 10-20 seconds of them holding each other, Padme powerless to help as Anakin absolutely destroys himself from the inside out. A silent scene with somber music, sobbing and the two embraced that lasts long enough to let you see that what they both feel is true. To see the effect this can have, see here the Fresh Prince of Bel Air when Will's father leaves: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4uqiXZ6f6aHetU TL;DR The Tragedy of Darth Vader is one of the most moving stories with a more complete understanding of the characters that additional Star Wars media brings which the movies failed to deliver.

Because of Obi Wan..
@D4C_Gaming2 жыл бұрын
Vader and Obi-Wan really are some of the most tragic characters in cinema. Vader fell down the dark path to save the one he loved, but he ended up losing *everything* he loved. Obi-Wan realized that he had failed Anakin as a mentor and as a friend, and was forced to live alone for the rest of his life with nothing but that guilt, and the small sliver of hope that maybe Anakin could come back.
@infantry31st952 жыл бұрын
What really broke my heart was when in the Revenge of the Sith Novelization Obi-Wan says to Yoda “To keep watch over Anakin’s son- I can’t imagine a better way to spend the rest of my life.” I love the distinction of Luke being Anakin’s son and not Vader’s. Once more, in my Anakin Analysis, I say that Anakin and Vader are similar, yet incredibly opposing each other in ideology: once being overcome with grief at their downfall and one embracing it and letting it run over him, too a point where Anakin and Vader seem totally opposite. Anakin wanted to save Padme no matter what had to be done, but Vader wanted to rain destruction, sorrow, and power. Mix the two, and you get the Revenge of the Sith.
@DonutsWithSprinkles32 жыл бұрын
@@infantry31st95 my god it’s just so sad. i can’t stop think ab how he came from literally nothing and that inspired him to become so powerful and achieve greatness. he found the most beautiful girl ever and fell in true love and he had a great friend in obi wan, yet his fears, his doubts, and his mind got to him and led him down a path where everything that little boy once dreamed of could get so close to achieving, yet end up losing it all. it also doesn’t help that the Jedi council was so against him. it’s just disturbing how sad this is. being in that situation would just be… idek.
@Ismael-kc3ry2 жыл бұрын
As a mentor for sure, but as a friend that’s a stretch. Let’s not put all of the blame on other people, Anakin was largely at fault for many of the things that happened. It wouldn’t be a redemption at the end of the story otherwise.

@thefvguy56482 жыл бұрын
@@Ismael-kc3ry I disagree. Obj-wan should have seen that Anakin was probably never fit to be a Jedi. Anakin gets attached to people around him, he learns to live and grow friendships, even with him fellow troopers and droids during the Clone Wars. Obi-wan knows this ain’t the way of the Jedi, as they are to he depraved of all attachment and be loyal to to order. But not only to deprecated of a personal life, but of emotions. Anakin naturally is a very emotional person, but the Jedi Council saw this as a weakness. Which only led him to frustration, anger, and ultimately seeing in the Sith and Jedi as no different. Despite this, Obi-wan as mentor didn’t see this. He remained to his traditional values and training Anakin was a promise he couldn’t break, since it was one he made as a promise to his master, Qui-gon. In Episode III, when Obi-wan screams “You were the chosen one!,” it was the frustration and disbelief that his master, who he pledged his word to. Was wrong, and all this was for nothing. Anakin may be responsible for many of his actions, but his was ultimately a slave. Never allowed to be free and his true self. Obi-wan, and the Jedi Council failed him.

Galen: the surrogate son he betrayed time and time again. (We all know the little bit of Anakin that resided in Vader at the time saw him as a son.) Leia: the daughter he never got to know. And most importantly... Luke: the son that finally freed him. I like to think that after his death he was able to see those he had failed (bar Luke and Leia.) and ask for forgiveness. Brace yourself and read while you listen. Im sorry for what pain I cause. “Luke….” I call as he mounts the ladder leading to the cockpit of his X-wing. Desperation splits my voice. How is it I have dealt with this family for generations and still haven’t figured out how to get through to them? “I don’t want to lose you to the Emperor the way I lost…” I fumble. What I want to say is Anakin. What I want to say is my best friend. What I want to say is your father. The way we both lost him, I want to say. To a needless war, to a wild heart. To a doomed prophecy. Instead I finish, “..Vader.” Luke turns back to me and there it is again, that wild glint in his eyes. Had he not left, he probably would have hated Vader for killing/imprisoning his friends, killed him in cold blood and the Emperor would have had little work to do at this point. If Anakin was allowed to visit his mother, he might have been much more in peace as well, and wouldn't have beheaded Dooku

I personally think Vader would hate Davy Jones. In POTC, Davy Jones was always portrayed as bitter and overly cruel for the sake of just being cruel. It's like he resented others' happiness and joy because he was never granted it. Vader on the other hand in the OT was more machine than man, not just physically by emotionally. Anakin Skywalker had failed at everything he had set out to do, and Vader was the outcome of his failings. Vader hated himself more than anyone else because he blamed himself for becoming this shell of a man. But despite this, Vader was never portrayed as sadistic or cruel to anyone who hadn't earned his wrath. Vader was certainly no stranger to killing, but you'll notice Vader only killed incompetent officers, rebels and traitors of the Empire. He never killed anyone for the sake of killing. Vader for the most part was fair, he is what we would call Lawful Evil. Jones on the other hand would be Neutral Evil, typically a character who is only out for themselves and doesn't really care for rules or laws, happy to break them or serve under them so long as it gets them what they want.

If only Qui-Gon won... Qui-Gon understood that the Jedi still do have emotions and they shouldn't neglect them. Qui-Gon could've saved Anakin from his fate. Growing up I never understood The Duel Of The Fates, as I mature more and more I start to realize that upon Qui-Gon's death Anakins fate was sealed in metal. Imagine what Qui-Gon and Douku could've taught Anakin. Douku only really turned to the Sith because of the death of his apprentice if I am not mistaken. Cinema has died. The original 6 movies have been the best cinema I have ever experienced. I am grateful to be alive during this time. What Disney has done to Star Wars is absolutely disgusting.

I feel like a lot of people greatly misunderstand how much grooming affects people. I've seen a lot of people place blame on Anakin for what he did but ...he was groomed by a Sith since he was a child, and whenever he turned to the Jedi for help, his abuser made the Jedi into unwilling participants in the cycle of abuse, using their words and actions as weapons against Anakin. If you look at real cases of kids being groomed, even minutes can be enough to cause irreparable damage. Prior to the empire, Palpatine had access to Anakin for around a decade. Yeah- let that sink in. Let us remember that Anakin was the victim here - and he lost his free will when the Jedi gave Palpatine one on one access to a child and when they denied said child the emotional support he needed to realize he was being abused and isolated from his friends in family. Not to mention the Jedi (not maliciously) helped to isolate Anakin from his family. And let us remember that in the end, Anakin finally had help breaking the cycle of abuse and defied his abuser- resulting in his death. Anakin's story is a horrific tragedy.

What makes Williams' score for these films so good is that they aren't for the background, they tell the story themselves. They are why you can't separate music from Star Wars, they heighten the experience and we as fans are left with the pieces in this video. Each film's vibe is encapsulated by the music but the nature of the tragedy of Anakin is this score. It will never cease to be a timeless work of art. Thank you John Williams.

Never give up. Never. Let those who read this prosper we may not know one another but you're never alone. Love to all. Peace to all. I love how well the Prequels spread the blame for what happened. We all know Palpatine is evil, but the Jedi Order's distrust of Anakin and harsh stance on relationships gave him nowhere else to turn but the one person (apart from Padme) who seemed to accept him for who he was. So in the moment where the Jedi needed him the most, he turned on them instead. But then there is Anakin himself, who is blameworthy too for not understanding the damage his double-life was doing to him and others, and for focussing so much on himself. It's just a great all-round tragedy IMO.

There's also Padme, a woman whose political career was instrumental to the downfall of the Republic, and by the time she noticed it was too late. It was Padme as Queen who caused her planet's senator to become Chancellor. Padme and Jar Jar's positions in the Senate were born of the nepotism of that, which then allowed the usage of the Clone Army and the start of the Clone Wars. It was her trusting Jar Jar that specifically caused it. She made the "I can fix him" decision when Anakin first touched the Dark Side; rather than getting him proper help she decided to hook up with him in response. She watched Anakin get darker and darker during the war, and civil liberties fall to the wayside, and by the time she decided to act, she was too late. Palpatine came from her homeworld. She could have prevented the Empire's rise for almost 15 years straight, but instead she enabled it, lacking the foresight and wisdom until it was too late.

Anakin is the most beautifully, deep and complex character in all of star wars and cinema history. Born without a father, poor, a slave with no hope for the future, taken from his mother, his mother taken from him, fell into forbidden love, feared loss again, fell to darkness, lost his title and gained a new one, destroyed the order he fought for his whole life, lost his wife, lost his friends, lost his children, lost his body and became trapped in a suit which made him suffer constantly and was the fuel for his hatred, comitted terrible acts, met his son and daughter years later and his heart was again moved and awoken, defeated his wicked master who fooled him and saved his son and was redeemed. Beautiful. No one can tell me there is a better star wars character. Anakin's story is fundamentally about what it means to be human. Anakin's redemption story resonates because it tells us all something we desperately want to believe - that no matter what we've done, it's never too late to turn back. It's never too late to learn from your mistakes. It's never too late to stand up, dust yourself off, and turn around. You are never too far gone to change. Vader tells Luke earlier, "It's too late for me, son", yet his last words were "You were right about me. Tell your sister, you were right..." It's only too late to change if you have convinced yourself of that very fact. Personally, as a Christian, I relate Anakin's redemption to the idea that none of us are too far gone to be beyond God's forgiveness. We're all flawed, but we aren't lost if we turn and accept God's pardon through Jesus.

After Obi Wan tricked and sliced up Anakin and just stared down at his fallen brother. He could've just force pushed him deeper into the lava to finish him off. Or just like we see in that second shot, he goes and collects Anakin and just holds him. Most likely telling him it'll be okay and forgiving him. Maybe even telling Anakin he's sorry for not being there when he needed him the most and what not. Either one of these could've been enough to change the course of Star Wars. Now as Lord Vader, he fully embraced his pain and believed that he could never be redeemed for what he had done. It somehow reminded me of Mufasa's theme from the lion king. Fitting considering both Mufasa and Vader are voiced by the same legend. RIP James Earl Jones. We need a mashup of the two themes!

Star Wars, the Skywalker saga (1-6) specifically is perfect. It shows that a character can be both the hero and the villain. Both driven by completely different motives, yet able to achieve their destinies.

What I love about Anakin's tale is the theme that seeking power to conquer death inevitably leads to more death and suffering as there isn't enough power in the world to stop the most vital and real parts of life, which are suffering and death :D.
