The waves one has always sounded a bit sterile to me, and doesn't retain low end very well. Having a hardware 160VU, the AO sounds much closer and reacts in a similar way. Instantly heard the blind test and thought "that one has more movement to it like the hardware". Props to AO 😁

@@SoundcastStudios Watched a clip of Dr Dres engineer and he swears by it for vox. just, mic - neve 1073 - dbx 160 - tape So guessing it's good for hard rap which doesn't have much dynamics. wouldn't suggest this for ballads

you don't have to have oversampling on. Oversampling is there to reduce aliased harmonics. If you aren't pushing the compressor into extreme saturation then its unlikely that you are going to experience severe aliasing. Plus its going to affect instruments with harmonics well over 20khz. Saturation and compression plugins are the ones more likely to experience aliased harmonics but on one track i wouldn't worry about it.

Oversampling makes a noticible difference in the sound. It sounds simply better than without oversampling. Try it yourself

I like it on my drum buss , but that's about it. It's good free tool from AO. They make good stuff.

I don't like how AO names their plugin very much. Very troublesome when searching but their plugin sounds too good to be free. Very competitive to most paid plugin out there.

great freebie. I did test it against the NI VC160 and preferred the NI. Still, can't complain about a free plugin

Wow you’re using the NI VC160? It’s been really underrated and it didn’t get a lot of love from the community. I don’t see it used as much as I think it should be ! Why do you think it’s not receiving the attention it should get ? Do you hear anything odd ball about the way it handles audio ?

@@razzerraw1108 it was coded by Softube for NI. It gives snares and kick a nice punch.i think it's quite an old plug-in now but it sounds good I haven't done any analysis on it, I just preferred how it handled drums compared to the analog obsession
