The March 2011 earthquake affected Japan’s digital switchover. While most of the country was able to convert to digital on 24 July 2011, the prefectures of Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima had to wait as they suffered severe damage in the earthquake and its related tsunami which caused the Fukushima nuclear disaster. These three prefectures had their analog signals switched off on 31 March 2012.

The biggest lie is with digital you will get better picture and sound. Well, that is true if you live within a few miles of a transmitter, but many people lost over-the-air TV altogether. Where I live, with analog, I received all major networks, two independents and two PBS stations. After the switch to digital, all I got was one PBS station. Even after upgrading my antenna.

We have over 1 TV before. But, it is now a smart TV, so you would not get some problems with it. Easy right? Well, switching TV is the easiest way to avoid problems with digital!

Do you think the timing was right for the US analog shut down, or was it too soon? By now, almost everybody has a flat, rectangular TV and most have even cut the cable and don't even bother with antennas, but maybe too many people still had old TVs in 2009. There were also those who had an HDTV in one room but old TVs in other rooms. By 2009, HDTVs were finally starting to come down to cost parity where normal people could afford them. What's really insane is that the government was originally planning that digital switch much earlier, in like 2002, then 2004. Anyone around at that time knows how ridiculous that was.

I think 2009 was fine. The digital converter boxes were pretty inexpensive, espically with the government coupons. Most people I knew already had one or were using cable boxes or DirecTV. 2002 would have been crazy though. Internet in someone's house wasn't even a gureentee then.

In India also it happened early. Started in 2012 across 4 cities and by 2014 it was transitioned across most places. I remember we used CRT TV till 2014 and we had to put digital set up box in CRT itself in 2013 as transition in my city happened in 2013. Later we bought LED in 2014. Even today there are many homes in villages who use CRT and they have digital set up box.

I'm not sure, 2002 or 2004 until 2009 seemed like plenty of time for people to get converter boxes or new tvs and stuff like that. I feel like if it was bad timing, they could've promoted it DTVs more.

Will be gone in July 2021 I know because I lost my job at eighty seven point seven fm Then got told and keep my job.
