I prefer the sound of the Tegler Tube summing on that particular song. To me it feels like the vocalist is channeling a retro vibe, and the tubes bring that out better.

Great work! Possibly the best summing comparison on YT. All 3 mixes sound great to me and i would risk a guess that nice analog mastering would make those indistinguishable.

I feel analog gear is great because you can work less to achieve wonderful sounds. I noticed just running a mix through an SSL Fusion instantly sounds better with minimal effort. But if I arrange my UAD plug-ins to find that right combination, digital can achieve impressive results too. Of course this is if your mix is already 90% solid before mastering.

I'm listening on my phone, and I can hear a difference, but I think both the analog summing mixers are louder than the digital sum. In order to be an equal comparison we need to ensure the output LUFS/RMS are equal.l, as even 0.5 db extra loudness will cause people to think they like it more.
@mynameistechno2 жыл бұрын
To me they are equal. but we cannot dismiss the sensation of sharper transient/faster attack which make it appear "louder"

for a while i felt that Satori was sounding so much better then all the rest, and then i realised the difference of moving from Digital to Satori was quite a jump in terms of uplifting the mix, but the jump from Satori to Tegeler was almost negligible, hence the lesser, rather almost no feeling of aural excitement. So my mind was like, why is the Satori so much better? Then I did the reverse, from Tegeler to Satori to Digital. It is then i realise that Tegeler and Satori were so close that i couldn't tell the difference. Haha, that digital to Satori got me almost! like"What?!" Also more so because I have my Tegeler TSM in store waiting to be put up. :D

the satori was louder. I am not even sure if its better than the digital sum playback, or if I am truly hearing better separation/imaging

Question about the summing section: what's the purpose of the "THRU" d-sub connector??... what is minded for?? :)
@AntelopeAudio4 жыл бұрын
Hi! The THRU connector is a line output, that directly outputs everything that is coming in on the D-SUB connector that is right below it. So channel 5-8 that are coming in on DB-25 (below the THRU output) are going out to the THRU output above. If you have any other questions - please ask!
@fausto_colella4 жыл бұрын
@@AntelopeAudio i can monitor more than one stereo input from the DB25? I mean let's guess I have 4 stereo busses, I can monitor 5 and 8 and mute 6 and 7? Or I only listen to the summed signal pressing SUM button OR only one at time from 5 to 8 stereo inputs?

I LOVE tube gear but the Satori imparted better separation and dimension to my ears… that’s what I look for in summing. The Tegeler sounded great but everything sounded smooshed into the same syrup. Not to mention the low end. It’s not even close. The Satori takes it. Just my humble opinion

Satori is great. The difference is very obvious. All you're missing is the atomic clock for even greater separation.
@ulsdigital4 жыл бұрын
whats is that? would you explain me please?
@380stroker4 жыл бұрын
@@ulsdigital It is how your interface takes multiple pictures of the sound wave called sample rate or sampling. There are extremely accurate ways to do this and so people invest big money on quality word clocks or automic clocks for better stability. Any major Hollywood post production studio will mainly use automic clocks.

Mellow songs probably don't benefit much from tube circuits at the final stages since tubes have a strong mid scoop. Opposite applies for songs with strong mids coming from dist gutiars, pronounced acoustics, belting female singers.

We should stop this madness. I recorded poor artists: put any trick and gear you want, for hours. Then I recorded brilliant ones. The job? Put the right mics on the the right place understanding the room, particularity of the musician, instrument and musical intention. Then just go REC and later STOP. Our job is to stamp as faithfully as possible the intention of the performer. The rest is just business, no music.
