@@SimonGarnier This. Sure $20 for 8 shots isn't bad..but back in the day, the images were sharper, you got 2 more, and you didn't spend money only to shoot lomo purple or have some other issues.

Really enjoyed this video! I do SX-70 repairs and contribute to the software side of the OpenSX-70 project. One thing to keep in mind for those with Mint cameras is that the times listed on the time machine are actually only EV equivalents at F8. The shutter physically cannot reach speeds of 1/2000 at f8 due to the shutter and aperture being one in the same and I really wish mint would be more clear about that in their marketing.
@monsieurzen54093 жыл бұрын
Woah. Yeah that should be disclosed.

@SimonGarnier3 жыл бұрын
That's interesting. Would you mind elaborating on this or pointing me toward an explanation of this online? What does 1/2000 mean exactly then? Thanks for that.
@drsassafrass133 жыл бұрын
@@SimonGarnier Sure! The easiest way to explain is that the shutter and aperture are the same blades. As the shutter opens the aperture opens wider and wider. What the mint camera’s speeds truly represent are EV values. The value exposed for at 1/2000 is EV17 and 1/2000 at f8 is an equivalent EV value. The actual average aperture over the exposure as well as the shutter speed is much less.

Hard to compare film prices. 35 mm slows me down from digital, 120mm slow down from 35mm and the 120mm slows down to 4X5. If I get 10 good shots from a roll of 35mm it's a good day, 3 shots from the 120 roll I smile and maybe 1 good 4x5. It all works out the same. Excellent channel.

Thank you for this fantastic video once again! I absolutely love my SX-70, its such a fun camera to take with you when you get out with friends! The film is not the best (not as it was), and not the cheapest... However, it does make you think about how and what you shoot a bit more. ISO160 is enough during daylight, but I'm planning on getting an polaroid 600 camera for the evenings.

I got myself a SX-70 Camera at a Pawnbroker in Oakland, CA, in 1980 as I use it during my time in Art School, and now that I am 65 that I still have it, just wish that Polaroid WOULD MAKE a 10 shot Cartridge Film Pack again, and You do not shake the film when it comes out of the camera - Whoever said that??? As I remember in making SX-70 Pillows by placing a match over the print and how it seperated, and see the layers of Colors Dyes. Had a great, and good times using my SX-70 camera.... I now use the Instax Line..
@Adrian-wd4rn2 жыл бұрын
Chemicals they have to make today, causes the film to be thicker, hence why they can't fit more than 8 shots into a pack.

SX-70 are cool but the new Polaroid film is very underwhelming. The quality is not up to the original and it's not even consistent among different batches. Not to mention we only get 8 out of a pack.
@SimonGarnier3 жыл бұрын
As we mention in the video, the price of a shot in today's dollars is not much different from what it was at the time (maybe even cheaper actually). But I agree that the results vary a lot between packs. I sometimes get stunning colors, sometimes crappy results. I don't know if it's a batch issue or because the packs are not kept in good conditions by the resellers. There is also the problem of the development temperature that seems to have a huge impact on the color balance of the final result.

@@SimonGarnier Well, it does have the solution to correct the magenta cast, some people release the filter holder for the SX70 with the 37mm thread mount, you can attache the IR cut filter to correct the magenta cast. And I tried, it works very well on my SLR690.
