Analogue radio is not dead! Just take a trip to your local supermarket...

Hi there, I was in Tesco the other day and lo and behold they are still selling the £8 analogue world band radio. There were only three on the shelf, so someone other than me is buying them! They also sell a three band radio with FM, MW and LW for £10! Who would have thought it in 2019 you could still buy a radio in a supermarket with longwave?! Maybe it's down to our love of cricket lol.

I am not a lover of Cricket in any way shape or form, but I need my fix of Steven Nolan, Question Time, News Hour, Today in Parliament, The West Minster Hour. That ten quid radio would have been in my basket regardless of how many radios I have 👍 73s Tam.

That ten quid set is an excellent little kitchen or job-site radio.. I scored a pair of them about 20 years ago for a tenner via Farnells, and they stood up to many years of being dropped, stood on, dropped, paint-splattered, dropped, and broken, and held together with insulating tape. Oh yes, they got dropped a lot and still worked.

Nothing was better than sitting in my room as a kid and listen to AM(MW) and enjoying distant stations, that played different music but especially the talk radio and news stations. Those days are going away but there's still some really good stations still on the air.

I couldn't agree more Walter. Before I ever got my hands on a shortwave radio, I was given an Hitachi portable and I would listen to Radio Moscow and Radio Tirana on MW all night! 73! Clint

In the United States, a few pharmacy stores still sell radios although none of them have SW or LW. I bought my Sony ICF-P26 AM/FM Pocket Radio at Walgreens. It's a pure analog tuner, not the DSP that you find in many of today's radios.

That's a really great solid radio. I got one at Walmart 4 years ago, it's pretty decent on MW DXing. There's a lot of russian videos on here of it for some reason.

There's only one station on LW in the UK these days, BBC R4, can also pick up RTE most of the time, a whole band for one station, lol. Need more LW and SW stations here.

So, there must still be a decent market for such analog radios. Very interesting. As for longwave, I don't get nothing on that section of the band but I guess I need a much longer wire than 60 feet.

I love longwave. I speak on Zello to someone in Germany who said dab never caught on there but one in Denmark said they are all digital. Let’s face it though when bbc went to fm then am got loads new stations so I think the same would happen to fm. Too many propagation problems to solely use dab
