Analysing a Text - alternatives to PEE

Here we are looking at an extract from Robert Swindell's Stone Cold novel. We look at a GCSE style exam question and consider how we might answer this.
I'm hoping to move away from a PEE structure which I find restricts creativity and depth of analysis.
Here I model an initial analysis by brainstorming through the text and making brief notes. I should probably find a synonym for 'interesting' too. Bu tby providing an unscripted model, students are given an insight into your own thought processes and methods.
