Excellent analysis, Alan. This is one of my favourite string quartets. Wouldn’t it have been lovely if Ravel had written more than one. Of course, he left us such a wealth of soul enriching music, how can I complain? :)

Always good to study this content within a form . Thanks ! Ravel has such control of his material and I wonder the metaphor and tropes behind that measured rising in the beginning . I'm going to look at the chansons see how he set words !
